We are kind of looking at a 1983 Excel 3 here in town. That Yamaha 338cc (340) is a decent engine. Now that I have my Indy 440 running good, I feel like I want to work on another "vintage" sled, and this one could be a fun project for us while we wait for the trails to open around here. (West central Wisconsin.) I could guess that there may be several possible causes of the engine seizure on your machine. (Maybe a combination.) My first guess is crank seals (especially on an older machine). Could be cracked/broken or plugged oil injection lines. It could be the injection pump, but that is very rare on the 338/433 Yamaha engines. Another possibility is that the throttle cable or linkage to the oil pump became disconnected or otherwise out of adjustment, causing too little oil to get injected. I could be completely off-base with these ideas, but by the way you described it I suspect something in the the oil system. Will be interesting to see what happened (if you decide to do an engine autopsy.) I know! Long comment, LOL. Guess I am just a big snowmobile enthusiast here....especially love the older stuff.

Appreciate the comment! I know that engine was hurt when we got it the compression imbalance was 50 psi difference. Pto side I think puked out. Will make another video if we decide to tear into it. Happy holidays!
