Andy Robinson - one of the most overlooked villains in film history. Masterpiece of a performance 👌

I agree. He said while they were filming, staff wouldn’t allow him in their office because they thought he was crazy. Great actor

Completely agree. Andy Robinson's performance is chilling, so much so that I thought the movie director had recruited a professional criminal for the role of Scorpio. It took several months before I realized that it was a Hollywood actor I had never heard of. Robinson's mannerisms, speech patterns and facial expressions throughout the movie made Scorpio one of the darkest villains in the history of cinema.

I watched this movie for the first time this year. I knew the first "Do I feel lucky?" scene, but I had absolutely no idea what the movie was actually about. This opening scene shocked me.

The first Dirty Harry is a masterpiece. The sequels?? Not so much. What made the original Dirty Harry a classic is that it was highly controversial and distinctly went against the grain at that time (1970-1971). Remember: this was an extremely progressive and liberal time in the U.S. and a great deal of legislation was passed to protect the rights of criminals and individuals during an arrest, e.g., Miranda warning, etc. No one expressed any concern with regard to the rights of the victims. A film about a rogue S.F.cop who takes matters of justice into his own hands because of the ineffectiveness of the judicial system was considered outrageous at that time, and this film was widely panned by liberal movie critics as a result. It was not until the Charles Bronson film 'Death Wish' came along three years later (1974) that the tide began to turn in favor of the victim and Dirty Harry was finally recognized as the masterpiece that it is - many years ahead of its time. True.

Yes he certainly did, she didn't expect that while she was flirting and swimming a bullet right in the back, poor little slut that must have hurt. Well not for long but still hurt. She sunk in no time. Now that's one way to stop a slut from swimming.

It seems kind of misplaced almost for the film to open with a rather poignant reminder of the sacrifice of law enforcement officers. Its a nice gesture and I respect it, but it seems a little out of place for a film that is less about the sacrifice of police officers and more about a cop who ultimately throws out the rules in favor of his own beliefs.

It was respect to all the San Francisco officers who had fallen in the line of duty. They used the backdrop of San Francisco as a main character for the film too. They originally intended to shoot it in Seattle but they chose San Francisco because it was too hard to pass up.
