In my 76 years on this planet, and as a musician for most of those years, I have encountered and even had the privilege of working with (jamming or co-writing soundtracks, etc.) some of the best of the best, and in my eyes and to my ears, Dirty Loops are 3 of the most brilliant musicians of our time. To say they are underappreciated is an understatement!

Not a Jazz Club, this is the famous Montreaux Jazz Festival, where only the luminaries of the genre are invited to perform! You may already know this, but these guys met when they were around 11 at the Stockholm Conservatory - where, like most top-tier performing arts venues, only a very few are admitted each year, so even back then they were as good as it gets. I want to adopt these guys, but I think their families might object, and I'd have liked to invest in them, but Quincy Jones beat me to the punch ;-) I love your reactions and your feeling of dismay (which is shared by millions here on KZitem) that they are not more widely known - because they should be admired and appreciated by the whole freaking world!

Jonah and Henrik met in music elementary school (when Jonah was 9 and Henrik 11), and then they got to know Aron in music high school,. They'd already known each other for years when they went to conservatory (i.e. Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm), which you cannot attend without a high school exam (and of course rigorous auditions and entry tests in music theory and such). :)

I wish more people knew about them for sure, to the point where I've had to stop myself from walking up to strangers to show them a song on my phone, lol. Once, a woman I didn't know at a craft retreat that I go to every year, mentioned she used to play bass, so I giddily showed her Henrik. She listened to about half a song, handed me my phone back, & said deadpan, "I didn't play like that." So now she thinks I'm crazy, but she's not wrong in that regard, lol. Oh well. I would love to see them at any size venue & I'm sure they could handle whatever came their way, but I do sort of wonder if they just strive to maintain their creative autonomy, so they don't have to answer to "the powers that be" in the music machine.

Yeah, and be sure to use the version on their own channel and read the description. It's brilliant how they're making fun of one of the music journalists who didn't get it at all (and I don't get how someone can be a music journalist and be so completely oblivious as to what is obviously top quality music, regardless of whether it's their cup of tea or not). They found her review absolutely hilarious. :D kzitem.info/news/bejne/w5qJtoZtep1ynKw&ab_channel=DirtyLoops

I’ve wondered about the audience, too. Unless there is something in the works, Quincy Jones hasn’t changed their trajectory that much. I think they don’t care as long as they can make a living playing exactly everything they want to play in the way they want to play it, and they’re ok with the label jazz fusion. Which, if you look them up under concert/club/festival dates, that’s the category they’re under, and that typically doesn’t have a large pop/rock/rap -type fan base.

Totally agree with you Norse. Why why why aren't these guys paying bigger venues.? Maybe now the Quincy has them under his wing, they will break out. I've followed them now (in Australia for goodness sake!) for many years. They are without peers.

Love it that you listen and react to Dirty Loops, man, -and again so insightful. Thanks 🙏 Yeah and the fact that they haven’t performed more widely, and to bigger audiences: I think they did quite well in Asia (and South America? Not sure), but a bunch of things happened, and namely COVID got in the way of more live performances. Still, they’re killin it live! Those chops! Aron, Henrik and Jonah, they’re just beasts in what they’re doing -and having so much fun…! Here is one of three interviews which Jeff Castenon had with Jonah. You might want to check them out, some interesting things in there… xx kzitem.info/news/bejne/r42s1p2dfnuVlIo

I need to work out how I feel about them live. Of the concert footage that I've seen, it's all pretty much been like this. Even with bigger stages, there's no huge production. Like you, I want to see them in concert myself to see if my feelings change about their live performances. I'm sure that they don't feel they need a big spectacle and it's just about the music for them, but a little somethin somethin every now and again would be kinda cool. I will say this, though. When they do "Sexy Girls" live, it's always fun. Between the way Henrik introduces it to the drum solo to the thing Henrik does after the solo, it might be my favorite live performance.
