Well done Richard, not all rides go as you'd like & you definitely can't control the weather. Point of interest, I never pull thorns out of tubeless tyres as it only encourages them to loose air. If they are sticking out of the tyre just cut or break them off 🙂

Hi Anthony, the problem was I was trying to pump air into the tyre but struggling to do so for whatever reason I just couldn't get any air through the valve.

Good video - captured the atmosphere well. Strava "stalking" flyby mode shows you were riding pretty close to me for miles until you hit tyre problems. For me a mad weekend ... arrived well after dark & somehow got the last pitch at the castle camp. Enjoyed the race once the rain lifted (mostly) after the 1st feed & avoided cramp unlike last year. My legs were protesting sunday though as I rather unwisely rode the Gisburn pmba enduro with my daughter. Not getting back on a bike for at least another day 😀

Great stuff, it was enjoyable weekend. As for "ride next day" - you only live once!

Nice one Richard, you managed to get me in frame at the start ! Guy in red gillet and white Poc Helmet. I was miserable like Katie in the morning had me questioning what the hell I was doing there but the rain stopped in the afternoon and then around tea time the sun came out then it was brilliant. You actually live not far from me so might have to join you on a ride sometime.

Yeah, it was lovely. I stopped about 20 mins in the wooly backs with about 40 mile to go, ate a big pasty and soaked in that sun and tranquillity. Hard work was done... all was right with the world!

Yes, it was definitely wet! But on reflection, it could have been a lot wetter - official forecast was originally for 19cm of rain - so we actually got off pretty lightly. Beautiful ride, but a bit hard to take in the beauty when you're slogging along in the rain.

Many different forecasts - I saw 6cm but then again I had no Internet from Friday evening onwards!

Great video, i was looking forward to doing the dirty reiver this year, booked the time off work including the 2 days either side of weekend, so was all set as soon as booking started, but then last November my knee went, and was still waiting for consultant when the booking opened, so wasn't sure if i would be up to it, might try next year seen its April 20th so going to book time off for next year then hopefully get an entry when bookings open

I enjoyed watching that. It looked worse in your video than it felt riding it. Luckily I got round the full lap so got to see a little bit of blue sky around 25km from the end :o) I didn't think this year's route was as good as recent years - there was a little more road and a couple of muddy tracks, and the three biggest climbs were back-loaded into the last third of the ride. Overall, a good day out on the bike.

Great stuff Sandy thanks for watching. Overall a good day, and rain on camera always looks worse than the reality!

Yes unless signs say otherwise, the whole place is open to the public. All forest tracks and public roads/paths/trails.

Done the 200km, if the weather hadn't cleared I'd probably have bailed. Think it's me your waving to at the Expo on Friday, seen you were recording so didn't want to ruin your flow.

I too bailed and did the 130k, this was tactical it means I have come back next year. My only error was didn’t bother with a drop bag for second feed, by this point I was starting to feel empty and need something more than sweets and gels. Lesson learnt for next time.

I usually have it upside down hanging downward instead of on top, doesn't get in the way so much. Upside down would have meant hiding behind number I had been given.

I managed 136k. It was a bit grim early on but it brightened up and I even dried out a bit. A good ride.

Mentally to do 130km, then to go out on another loop retracing the last 25km? would be beter to retrace the first 25km, so it's forgotten about? or did i misunderstand the route?

Ha! Katie's honest opinion, stood there in nice warm clean clothes with a jet washed bike... 😆 And here's me 200k, rolling in filthy come sunset thinking it wasn't that bad really.... curry, bit of craic, drive home, wash the bike tomorrow. Type 2 not bad for sure!😃
