The Disaster Medical Specialist course is 50 hours and five days in length, ten hours of instruction each day. It is designed to provide the participants with the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform medical assessment and care at a structural collapse disaster scene due to natural disasters or terrorist incidents. This course exposes the student to the injury types consistent with structural collapse incidents. A heavy focus is placed on providing medical care in a confined space. The course is 50% classroom and 50% field based exercises. This class includes a realistic night exercise in Disaster City® in College Station, TX.
