I've just stumbled across this channel and I must say I am astonished that you are growing so much on a balcony (successfully), grapevine, honeysuckle, roses, hollyhocks and so much more. I have never seen anyone grown such vigorous plants in such a confined space, well done and I'm loving your enthusiasm and passion. We need more people growing passionately, for the planet and for our own healing :)

What do you call wood lice where you are? Anyone else's garden end up in a complete mess after you start "tidying' and lastly . What are your thoughts on my moral dilema at the end? 🤔

We call them sow bugs over here on the west coast of Canada. Very impressive they've made it up to the penthouse. Also, I think the good intentions leading to a mess is pretty much a metaphor for life! Somehow it all works out like your great garden. I have learned from you that I've given up on my plants wayyyy too soon. Thank you for your educational videos.

I know how you feel but!! Sometimes we have to do whats best, there is more bad bugs in your garden😔 so cut back the kale to get rid of the bugs and use neem mixed with small amount of dish liquid to treat, I did this repeating for 3 weeks and the garden is doing great. I enjoy your show, will be putting a small pond in my garden to encourage more beneficial insects.

Great video as always. You need to get some neem oil and drench the plants weekly. That will get rid of the bugs. The first bugs you are referring to look like roley poley.

Thank you!! I hate the idea of wiping things out on my garden because the oils etc will get rid of what goo beneficial insects I do have too.. but left unchecked the aphids and white fly will wipe out the garden before they arrive 😢 I'll take your comment as the first vote to being proactive! :) Roley Poley?? That's soo awesome! Much more fun than woodlice 🤣 Thank you for watching and sooo glad you enjoyed the video 🥰

Have you thought about popping a few bird feeders on the balcony? The birds that visit my feeder will also eat bugs off my plants.

You are not alone with the pest problems. My main issue is aphids mostly on my honeysuckles. I usually leave one area or one climber to the Aphids mercy and use my hand to remove as many Aphids as necessary to give other plants a fighting chance. I concentrate on protecting as many of the new buds as I can. I do it every morning in Spring/Summer. The Aphids die eventually and the sacrificed plant gradually recovers. I leave all the other pests, the birds eat them. I really enjoyed your video!! Very therapeutic and thanks for sharing your garden ☺️

I'm soo glad it's not just me getting attacked by these mini beasts. I think I may have to follow in your footsteps and reduce the population down a little bit. I don't normally tend to see any beneficial insects until late Summer.. so if I leave them, the garden will suffer. I don't get any birds either :( I'm so glad that you have found your own way of managing the population on your garden. Thank you so much for watching, I really appreciate it! :)

Pruning is my number one favourite garden activity. Weeding the pots? I don’t know her. But pruning? I could do that all day. Snip snip snip! ETA - I love natties but they are a bug magnet. I can’t grow them anymore in my small balcony because suddenly everything is crawling.

aahhaha!! This is why you found me.. cause we're like.. if that plant wants to grow there, let it do what it wants haha Right? Once they arrive, the aphids just take over in no time. I don't blame you for skipping them

@@CloudGardenerUK lol, let the plants be! That’s why I have rocket growing between my tiles after a seed spillage accident. Just let them live! Then they grow up and I can get my pruners out and go to town on them 😂 I’m super bug friendly in my garden but aphids give me the heebie jeebies. I did buy baby ladybirds though and that was so cute, watching them grow up and then munch munch munch down a whole line of aphids. Must have been like being born in an all you can eat buffet. They weren’t fat enough to stop flying away though.

Garlic cloves, marigolds and cedar mulch will also help with keeping bad pest away and also certain herbs.

Hello. 11:55 please note, those bugs are not caterpillars, they are vine weevil, and they attack just about any plant which have roots (so pretty much all of them). I'm in the process of producing a video about these bugs, but you will need to check ALL of your potted plants, as they can spread like wild fire. Hope you can save your heucheras. :)

Just noticed that at 14:25 there seems to be another vine weevil (VW) in the roots of your repotted heuchera. Please double check as soon as possible. I don't wish to alarm you, but if I were you, I wouldn't worry so much about the slug damage, as they don't tend to eat roots to the same effect as VW, and aphids are relatively easy to deal with. VW can if given the chance, wipe out your entire garden in a short space of time. You may need to get some nematodes and DE powder to help prevent the adult bugs from laying their eggs. VW potentially do the most damage of any garden pest, so please act on this asap.

I think you are right.. After the video, I found more of my caterpillars and more of these grubs.. they are different and these really are vine wevils!! They only happen to be in that one container so far! 🙈 It's soo strange, i didn't see any adults on my garden so I'm not even sure how they got there! 🙈 When is your video out?
@EVERBEE_GARDEN
Жыл бұрын
@@CloudGardenerUK Phew! Glad to hear they were found in only 1 container. Please keep an eye out just in case. The adults can be very difficult to find as they are nocturnal and they are the same colour as soil! Video coming out late Feb (I hope!)

I’ve actually given up on Heucheras ( excuse the spelling) as they are always destroyed by pesky caterpillars. Such a shame as I love them ….the plants not the caterpillars!😂
