I've used the iron and the paste on baby goats, and I have to say it is less traumatic for ME to use the paste! Goats are persistent horn growers, more so than cattle. Dr Naylor's paste can work on a calf up to 6 weeks of age, but with most goats, it is better to use the paste within the first 4 days after birth. There isn't the worry about causing brain damage from over heating the skull like there is with the iron, but make sure to keep it around the horn bud and NOT near the eyes! We've had pretty good luck with the paste if used early enough - only the smallest of scurs have formed and they were easy to pluck off with pliers after a bath.
