Great info and advice. The big mistake is buying high speed discs. They require fast arm speed to fly far. Under 45 mph, all discs go about the same distance. As for the plastics, I think the main reason cheaper plastics are less stable is that when that plastic cools out of the mold, the cheaper plastic shrinks. Shrinking causes the plate to form a dome, while the hard plastics stay flat across the plate. Doming causes discs to turn more.

I’ve been playing for awhile and sometimes the flight numbers can be confusing. They don’t always feel true to the numbers. I would suggest to anyone just starting out to buy base plastics because they season faster and fly straighter. Only downside is they do wear in faster. When you find a mold you like stick with it. I started throwing a buzzz. I totally agree with you on the play it again sports. They have a great selection and reasonably priced.

Wife shopping? 😁 I think the glide is important when factoring wind. Something with a lot of glide thrown downwind is going to go a lot farther. When thrown into the wind it's going to turn more.

Yeah, I honestly can't tell a difference between discs based on the numbers. I just know that putters, mids, and drivers have to be thrown at different heights to achieve the same distance.

@@iamRedviper I've got a couple discs with a glide of 7. I can throw the 7-speed, 7-glide just about as far as a 13-speed, 5-glide. Of course I can only throw about 300' on my best throw so for a beginner it may be more important.

@@danlewis1885 true. I mainly wanted to keep it as simple as possible to get people started on buying stuff.

Danny lindhal and dynamic discs did a video on disc weight. Thrown with proper form the heavier discs went further

No, the world records in distance are with very light discs for backhand, medium weight for forehand, and heavy for tomahawks. Distance contests throw downwind and accuracy isn't counted. In disc golf, you are also aiming and distance off-target matters, often. If it is a long par 5, and an open fairway, and not a headwind, throw the lighter discs. If throwing distance AND accurately, a heavy disc will be the wise choice.

@@michaelcushman yes, yes, in fact. Sure, if you're throwing in the desert with 60 mph winds, a lighter disc is going to go further. I'm talking real, legitimate, non wind assisted throws. I'm sure I can give the video if ya really want.
