The Wedding Ceremony is done, but the rituals are far from over. In episode five of News Room’s new mini-documentary series, “Discover Guyana”, we look at the ‘Kangan’. Pandit Navin shares that the Kangan refers to the sacred thread. On the Matikor night, it is tied, on Kangan day, it is removed. We will also witness the river ceremony and the now married woman’s return to her family. In Guyana’s cultural tradition, both sides will ‘sport’ close family and friends who worked tirelessly to make the elaborate ceremony a reality.
