I would really love to see Norristown get the same revitalization treatment that Ambler, Lansdale and Phoenixville have had in the last decade. Would love to hear people's thoughts on how they think Norristown will be revived over the next 10 years (or if it won't!). I think there is enough money and interest in doing so, and I think that huge courthouse project will really help to make main street more appealing. I don't know that it will ever be at Doylestown or West Chester levels, but I think it can get much better (and safer) than it is now. I know they are also trying to revive the state hospital there to better serve the mental health/ addiction crisis in the area. I think this could be an incredible community in the coming years, but we need to fight an uphill battle of people associating "Norristown" with "Sh--hole". Certainly the surrounding areas in Trooper/ Audubon/ W & E Norriton, Plymouth Meeting and Valley Forge are really great places to live, hoping Norristown will finally see a piece of that success.

My husband and I came to Norristown in 1999 as new homeowners seeking affordable housing that was close to highways and KOP (where I worked at the time) and never left because it just kept serving our needs. We raised our daughter here through the public schools and she loved her experience and is thriving at college now. We love being part of a diverse, progressive and growing town with beautiful architecture, a rich history, and a bright future! Very good video, Chris, and thank you for making it!

I really hope Norristown can continue on the up and up if it really is going in that direction now.

You obviously don’t know what “investment” and “undervalued” means. You can’t see the future either. South Philly and university city were $50,000 shells also and temple’s campus was next to the “projects” and you could buy shells for less than 50k. KOP & Conshohocken are all too expensive now so norristown is a great opportunity. The Schulkyl trail is 500 feet behind my house that we just bought and my neighbors have no idea of the value.

They do have a lot of diversity in Norristown and a lot of places where you can also enjoy diverse food as well. There are some nice people in Norristown, but you have a lot of not so nice people as well. There is a culture of people who wanna fight, argue, disrespect their elders, disrespect women, steal out of the local stores that cannot stop them and curse people out and don't care. Also, there is a subtle level of racism that do exist and it comes out in the persons behavior. It's subtle, but noticeable. You, have a lot of adults between the ages of 30 and 80 that cannot read, write or do arithmetic and lack basic communication skills. I don't know who's fault that is, nor am I'm judging. Decent people. Even an actual good cop or two. But unfortunately 90% of the police force is on an ego fueled power trip. The majority of the local officials have god complexes. The prison is corrupt as hell. The homeless population is tremendous, growing, and offered very little help or opportunity. The drug situation is out of control and beyond belief. It's a damn shame. honest question, is there a lot of crime in that area? if so is it mostly robbery or murder?
@WhoMovesYou

Legitimate question. Yes, unfortunately Norristown does report higher crime rates than some other surrounding communities. Most of the report crime is property/theft related.

Only time that I got thrown out of a bar was over 40 years ago. We were working outside on a cold damp day and decided to go to a Noristown bar to eat lunch & warm up. As we entered two girls who would never win a beauty pageant said something nasty to my boss. He yelled where you going to the SPCA to get your dog tags. Any way the bartender/owner heard him then throw us out. Me & another coworker never spoke a single word.

They are trying to revitalize Norristown for decades. Taxes are high, only certain areas aren't run down. mostly unemployed, immigrants, crime, crappy streets, just plain run down because it was affordable for certain people and unfortunately that attracts all walks of life. Some areas are slightly better than others but you have to know the area. A few miles away are East and West norriton which is night and day from Norristown. Better neighborhoods and people. You know the deal

I friend of mines moved to Norristown about 6 months ago. Her lease is up in 3 months and she can't wait to move out !!! The cops won't help her from her next door neighbor who is stalking and harassing her from day one !! He lives there with his girlfriend who knows what he is doing and let's him hide there ! Cops have a warrant for his arrest but don't try their best to catch him . She now has to carry a weapon! Go Norristown. SMH

I agree with the amount of history that Norristown hold besides the history there’s nothing exciting about Norristown at all! The cost of living is extremely high. I hope Norristown does something with Main Street like make it a cool strip to shop and eat. The Mexicans are doing well for themselves with Marshall street, they have markets bakery and little boutiques. Over all Norristown is nothing to write home about.
@WhoMovesYou

Depends where “home” is. If you’re concerned about the amount of businesses owned by the Mexican population, what actions should be taken to see other business owners come in? Are you a business owner? Do you plan on owning a business? Or are you just here to complain?
