Super cool airport. The tour looks like a great experience. Some serious “wow” moments. Joey says the thumb statue is from the World Cup, so you were right that it was football.

We were very glad we went. And I'm glad I got the sport right, it was just a guess but it seemed the most obvious. 😀

I bet it was gorgeous at night, but yes we were glad we went during the day. All the more reason to go back and do it again! 😀

Thank you for sharing this tour, the bear with the lamp is really cute! As a woman touring would I have to cover my hair? Congratulations I guess you finished the Cominos and on your way to Bali!

Good question, and I wish I had paid more attention. Everyone in our tour was dressed modestly as I recall (we wore pants to be safe but did see some other men in shorts at the Souq), but the women did not cover their hair, no. And yes we are finished with the Camino, but we still have many more videos coming to complete that adventure! 😀

Very nice video. We’ll definitely look to do this if transiting through Doha. Did you know about this tour beforehand and plan on a layover for this purpose? I wonder if other airports in other countries have tours like this. We once had a 12 hour layover in San Juan so took a taxi to the Old Town and had so much fun. We really felt like we saw it well too.

We found this as part of our research when we were considering this flight with the long layover. I'd heard of transit tours before, but we've either not had a long enough layover or haven't had them in places that offer transit tours like this. So we got a great deal using points for our flight AND got to see a new city and try a transit tour - in our book, this was a WIN WIN.

Great video! Did you gentlemen pre-purchase the City Tour on the Discovery Qatar website or did u buy the tour at the airport counter?

You can do either, but since we had a rather long layover, we just booked it at the airport desk after we arrived because we knew we'd have options. It was quick and easy!

@@tendegreeswarmer It certainly does. Have had long layover before in Doha but had not known of this. How did you pay for it - travel/credit card or do you need local currency in cash. I can probably book online - will check

@@grantellis1315 We paid with a credit card. You can book ahead of time online I believe though. We didn't get any local currency at all.

After a bit more research, we’re thinking of hiring an indenpendent tour guide so we can spend a bit more time than the 3 hours offered by the Discovery Qatar. By doing so, do you think we may end up having to get a Visa on arrival? For reference, we’re US citizens.

Obviously, your Doha transit needs to be during daylight hours?

Not necessarily. We took the 4pm tour which ended just as the sun was going down, but there were later tours. You just have to pick from their scheduled times of what they offer (there is a photo of the schedule in the video or you can find it on their website which is listed in the description.)

Forbes list Qatar as the second most dangerous country in the world for gay travelers (behind Nigeria). Interesting choice you guys just don't even mention anything about this.

Thanks for the comment. We have travelled to many countries that are not gay friendly, and would of course recommend everyone to take precautions to stay safe as they travel. But in this case, the question didn't even come up on a 3 hour tour. Tourists enjoy a fair bit of privilege in most places, and we've never been questioned anywhere we've been. But thank you for the information, if we were planning a longer stay we would definitely want to pay attention!
