The "ugly phase" was the most important part of the journey to me. It's where you begin to disassociate the correlation between your self-worth and your outward appearance. When you strip away the BS, you start to tap into your actual power, self-worth, and identity. It makes you feel free.

I really felt #3. I started freeforming because I wanted to appreciate my natural hait and liked the look and the way J Coles locs looked. Whenever I went out and saw people with locs I would think "man I wished my hair was at that stage". It made me not appreciate my locs as much until late 2022 (I'm approaching 21 months as of now) I've had people talk about how they liked my locs (directly or saying it to a friend) and been approached by others who are also trying to freeform. It threw me in a loop but I realized the self doubt and insecurity is mostly mental and that haven't totally let go of vanity.

I was torn between different ways i wanted my locs to look based on parting size. I was going to go smaller for fullness but i also like thick locs and didn’t want to spend as much time retwisting a bunch of smaller locs. Recently I’ve been wishing i went smaller but at the end of each day i think this i realize I’m happy with my locs as is. I was still intentional about it when i self started them and ultimately i still love my locs. It really is about trusting the process.
@TPlocks
Жыл бұрын
I understand this soooo much! I still deal with wanting thicker locs myself. When I first started I didn’t really know if my hair would look scalpy with the thick locs tho! Also didn’t know if I’d be able to do styles…BUT when I got a few years in and learned more, I realized thick locs had a lot more versatility than I originally thought. No cap, we can still start over! I’ll do it if you do it first! 😅👀👀👀 😂 (kidding)

After some training this morning I went through my planner to make sure the rest of this month was all recorded. I had to add my wash day as well as my retwist before the next meeting. I will say, it's been a struggle because I no longer use the loctician that started my locs or the one I started using after her. It will be 2 years locked in a few days. I should have done research about locs before getting them but I didn’t. I went to a salon that a friend of mine goes to and asked for medium locks. She hooked me up! I personally never had a point when I hated my locks. I can almost put all my hair in a single ponytail. Locking my hair was the best thing I’ve done for me. When I first started I did get retwist a pretty frequent. (About every other month or so) Now I go about 3 months without one. The only think I don’t like is keeping up with my bonnets. I travel a lot and for some reason I lose bonnets🤦🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️
