My brothers would use Crisco in their hair 😂 he had a BRAND NEW 56 crowned Victoria Ford and squatted it in the rear so supposedly, the weight would transfer to the back tires for better traction. Kids in my generation called that a L.A. drop. Meaning the style of lowering the rear suspension was thought of in Los Ángeles.

Originally from Marianao, Havana, Cuba. My parents older brother and I migrated to the U.S in 1970 so when I attended High School Rock-a-billy was all the rage. I'll never forget my Dad's reaction when I started wearing bataolas, suit suits and Rock billy fashion; " Muchacho que te pasa? No me gusta esa moda." "En Cuba te ven vestido asi y la poli te recogen rapido ".😊 Thank you guys that was a great video!!

I love these old cars!! My dad grew up in the 50's USA and restored these cars as a hobby. My first car was a 1971 VW Beetle and I bought it for $500 in 1988, so the car was exactly as old as I was. My dad had never worked on a German car and found it challenging to do repairs on an engine so small and in the trunk! I really enjoy going to classic car shows. The best one is in Long beach (Belmont Shore area) every September. My favorite old car is a Metropolitan Nash. It looks like a toy car and they came in the cutest colors. So glad to see you both had a good time. Great video as always. Cheers from San Diego.

There is a definite link with Rockabilly and Cuba. I think Rockabilly, and I tend to think of "I love Lucy" as an iconic example of the era. That show sparks a lot of Cuban links. Ricky Ricardo, Lucy's husband in the show, was Cuban and they went to Cuba in the story. Desi Arnaz, the actor who played Ricky Ricardo and Lucy's real-life husband (at least, during the show), was born in Santiago, Cuba.

In Japan you see this sometimes in Tokyo and Osaka. Unfortunately it’s not the same as these people are seen as the bad boys. They wear pompadours but that’s about it. Other than wearing a leather jacket, there’s not much 1950s about them. These people were let down by society and act out in rebellion trying to do something about it but they really can’t because Japanese society is so strict. These people usually end up working more hands on jobs like being cooks or construction workers which is good for them. In America it’s an expression of fun and leisure time. It takes a long time to get a 1950s car running perfectly again. They aren’t cheap even as a junk state.
