The water has to be around 0 C, otherwise it becomes ice. Though I guess you never truly get warm living in a tent and diving into near freezing water.

0 degrees celsius is the freezing temperature of water that has no sodium chloride (salt) in it. But salt water has a lower melting point of roughly -2 degrees Celsius (28 degrees F)
