Acclaimed archaeologist, David Johnson, details Native American sacred and ceremonial landscapes within local parks. Learn about various stone features associated with these landscapes, such as snake walls, stone piles, cairns, petroglyphs, and more. By familiarizing yourself with these features, you may be able to assist researchers in locating and documenting sites within the Palisades Interstate Park Commission’s jurisdiction, as well as throughout the lower Hudson Valley and northern New Jersey on your next hike!
**Please note that this talk does NOT share specific locations of Native American sites or features. The Trail Conference asks that trail users respect these sites, and park rules, by staying on trail.
