For anyone who ever watched Fringe, this guy is the Peter Bishop of music, his father was the Walter Bishop, and his father's best friend Les Paul was the William Bell. Dumb analogy maybe, but it fits like a glove.

What a small world.. Bill talks about getting introduced to James and going to see James Santiago's wife playing horns/keys with 'Zappa Plays Zappa' 34:48 I just met Scheila Gonzalez a few weeks ago in Melbourne Australia playing with Colin Hay from Men At Work, who I toured with for 10 years..she's truly amazing. Had no idea that James was her husband though lol! Great interview Lee as always. Regards from Down Under 🤟

The OX tech is as fresh as when it first came out. Nothing is better at capturing vintage classic guitar tones. The speaker modeling is THE most important part of the chain. Don’t believe me? Try putting the ox stomp after ANY modeler. Compare that modelers version of the model in the OX! Night and day. As for the rest, the tone master pro is the future. UA would need to make an all in one unit taking cues from the TMP.

Lee raises an interesting question: "analogue tech is invented > analogue tech becomes digitally modeled > what comes next?" Its similar to the ai spiral: original art/music/film is created > ai gets trained on that > ai produces its own shit > what happens when ai starts getting trained on its own shit? technology is cool, but if humanity replaces its creative muscles with machinery, not only will those muscles atrophy, but the next generation of creatives will have no originality to play off of.

If I understood the interview correctly, they won‘t be doing it because they think IRs are lacking the non linear parts of the sound.

@@JM_2019 but they are positioning their pedals as the solution to that. I think it makes sense to come out with an ideal way to amplify the amp sims they have created. Fender came close recently but their FRFR cabs have some sort of hiss or whine if I remember correctly. But really I want a really good modern amp pedal - something in the vain of a JCM 800 pedal
@JM_2019

@@thomascleveland Sorry, actually I misunderstood your post. I confused a FRFR cab with an IR loader. Such a cab of course would make sense, could even be a collaboration with a cab vendor.

in Lee' mind, he is holding on with every last piece of strength. Me? I have been in the box pretty much since 1997 although amps sound great live, I get it. But our wives, for bedroom players, hate our gear we buy UNLESS it keeps you home.

Well, you can just ask BILL there why my Apollo Twin quit after only one year, his company refused to repair it, the local so called distributor wanted HALF THE PRICE OF THE UNIT to fix it and WOULD NOT EVEN LOOK AT IT for less that 200 USD. The Unit FAILED and they know about this issue and refused to help me in any way. It now resides on shelf in the studio. Oh and we switched to SSL. Total shit company.

If you have got such a pedal NEVER do the firmware update or it might stop working
@stoneysdead689

29:23- Capt. it's very difficult to take you seriously after hearing you say something as utterly false as this. UAFX pedals- at least the amp sims- are a technical nightmare to use- and anyone who says they "get you playing as quickly as possible" is either just lying or has never used one- period. 1st- the day you receive your pedal you have to update the firmware, register it, and download the cabs- otherwise, it sounds like crap. And doing this takes USB-C on your computer- and no, you can't use an adapter- you have to have a USB-C port on the computer. If like me, you have an older computer with USB 3.1 or whatever it's called- you're sol. Trying to find someone who will let you borrow their computer for minute is one thing- but once you ask to download and install the UAFX control software- most ppl are going to say "no". But- I finally found someone who let me do it- and it worked- so I got that much done. Now I have to download and install the UAFX software on my phone- and it has to have Bluetooth. My phone had Bluetooth, but the UAFX software would not load on it no matter what I did. Had to buy a new phone- and finally I get the software to install and it appears to be working. Now to get it to pair with the pedal- took about 3-4 hours of just trying over and over and over again- but finally- it worked. Ok so now none of my presets are stored in the pedal- they're all on the cloud- the UAFX cloud-- which means if I want to play somewhere and have my presets- I have to be able to hit their Wi-Fi. And- in-between every song, while I'm playing - the Bluetooth connection times out- so every time I want a preset I have to run back through getting the phone and the pedal to see one another. Now you stop me Capt. when I get to the part where they "get you playing as quickly as possible." What a load of rubbish. Now all that said- I will admit that once I get it to work- it sounds amazing. That's why I continue to put up with this technical nightmare you ppl call convenience. It sounds the most like a real amp and feels the most like one- of any modeler I've ever used. But this whole idea of putting the presets on the cloud and you having to interface with the pedal via your phone- sending it out needing a firmware update- stupid beyond belief, whoever came up with it should be fired, immediately.

I have to agree that the UA apps in general leave something to be desired. The Bluetooth connectivity is unreliable, even on a latest-gen iPhone running the latest version of iOS, to the point where I have often had to unpair and re-pair the pedals in order to be able to connect. I've had an even worse experience with the OX Wi-Fi connectivity and apps. I had to go so far as to set up a dedicated Wi-Fi network for my OX, because it couldn't connect to my main network. Beyond frustrating for a $1499 device. That said, a lot of the rest of the stuff you've said is not accurate. Namely: - The UAFX pedals do not require firmware updates before you can use them - You do not have to register the pedals in order to use them. You only need to register if you want the bonus cabs/effects - Your computer absolutely does not need USB-C in order to connect to and update the UAFX pedals. USB-C is just the connector type, and USB-C cables are backwards-compatible all the way back to USB 1.1. However, not all USB-C cables are made equally (especially the cheap Chinese ones on Amazon/etc.), so it's possible you just had a cable that didn't work with the UAFX pedal. See here if interested: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB-C#USB_2.0/1.1 - Per UA's own documentation, UAFX presets are stored directly on the pedals, not in the app or in the cloud (help.uaudio.com/hc/en-us/articles/360058187832-UAFX-Control-Manual#h_01G3VKQ8QFRAEQV264M2MKE402 ). But you're right that the app only seems to work when connected to the internet, which is very frustrating
