@0:54, this is also seen in ice skating when the figure skater does their spin move with arms extended, and then brings their arms in, which causes an increase in the acceleration of the spin. Physics teachers have done this too by sitting on a spinning bar stool while holding dumbbells outstretched, and then bring the dumbbells in, resulting in the spin speeding up. @4:18. Right on. Yes it can be thrown from either side. It just needs a bit of readjustment with focus on how to create the elastic force through pulling. At this point, it may require focusing on pulling from a different circular/rotation point: The wrist. I think I'm going to load up a video to explain this part too - how even if it looks like pushing, it's actually pulling. It's a technique that can be experienced in certain sword styles. Great analysis man.

Thank you! I’ve seen a few of your videos and you have a great understanding for the mechanics. Yes agreed. The reduction in the radius of the arc increases its rotational speed, thus generating more knife speed. I find this and other wave styles to quite amazing in the way they work to utilize “free” energy through elastic tension and chain momentum.

Good job! after learning traditional no-spin for a couple of years, I stumbled upon SKANF. After some practice, I can say I'm getting it. At least on small distance. But what is more important. I find SKANF technique help me to improve traditional over head no spin. Instead of using whole hand movement, I try to limit over head movement and it makes throws more powerful.

Great video. It is Newton's law of inertia. The object will keep moving. The key is to let the knife slip from your hand so that the law of inertia works.

I was able to get this technique because of playing baseball and towel fighting people in restaurants but you hit it right on. It is a whip and if you can’t crack the whip I seen it in your other video you’re not gonna have a good throw and that’s the bottom line. I never thought of that until I watch your videos well done. I’ve been throwing up5leas than 5 months. How bout you

It’s a great technique and when done correctly almost seems like magic.. Done correctly, it definitely has that whip crack snap to it. Thank you. I’m glad you enjoyed my videos. I’ve been throwing consistently now for about six years, however at a low level hobby I’ve been throwing since I was seven.

Great video man i have been practicing for a while but i feel like my release is off. Is there a trick to the release and my knives 6mm thick and kinda heavy almost 11 inches long. Is this weong? Need a shorter lighter knife?
@princesteel
2 жыл бұрын
The trick to the release with this throwing technique is to allow it to happen on its own. You’re not really opening your hand to release, it more comes out in its own from the momentum and your hand being relaxed enough to let it happen. As far as the knife, unless it’s very heavy, shouldn’t really matter. I personally prefer slightly lighter, smaller knives myself. Say 8”-11” about 175-250 grams.

It can be a little more difficult especially at first learning to throw from the hip. Overall I’m still a little more accurate throwing overhand especially the further back I am.

there's no doubt skanf is a phenomenal technique, the msot impressive aspect of it is the versatility. But my question is: all tournaments and knife throwing champions use the standard technique, why is this? It wou;ld be interesting for yout o make a video on how the standard is superior to skanf
@princesteel
4 ай бұрын
I think the main reason is that most will struggle with accuracy as they get further back with the typical “from the hip” throwing style. The traditional overhand style I feel lends itself to easier accuracy as you’re “looking down the barrel” as you throw.
