Thanks for watching. Yeah it was almost 70 yesterday, and 60s today. Got rain last night and calling for more over the weekend and into Tuesday, so we’re stopped for a few days.

Not surprised at the 4840 pulling a 30ft, it's the fact it's just 2WD and not spinning. Used to pull a 24ft 235 JD Disc with a 4620 PowerShift in 4th. It was a load and didn't spin in the hills unless it was wet. About 3200 in Cast iron on the rear. Years later, I lightened it up and toyed with a 14 ft 215.

(WIDTH IN FEET) X (SPEED IN MPH) / 8.25 X (ESTIMATED EFFICIENCY PERCENTAGE) = ACRES PER HOUR IN YOUR CASE ( 96 FEET X 5.5 MPH ) / 8.25 x .85 = 54.4 ACRES PER HOUR APPROXIMATELY
@Hinesfarm-Indiana

Thanks for watching. Yeah all 3 of us pulled into this 40 acre field at the same time and an hour later we were done.
@thegreenerthemeaner

Before I saw your comment, I ran the same formula at 4.5 mph. Came out to 44.5 acres per hour. I also used 85% efficiency. It's not that these tractors can't run at a higher speed, it's how bad they can ridge which the Red rig is sure doing. I've found that slowing down and pulling a bigger disc actually covers more ground. Pull a 24ft at 4.5 vs a 20ft at 5.5. Virtually the same. If you use a low grade guidance system to keep overlap to 6-12", that efficiency goes to 91-92%.

The JD 4840 is 180 to 185, the 4955 is 200 to 210, I kinda wonder if the pumps not been turned up a little because it pulls the 33 foot disk good, the case is 305.

@Hinesfarm-Indiana 98% of those old Deeres have had the pump turned on. My 46 I plant with still had the wire on the back of the pump until we had the pump rebuilt. I know what the previous owner said, but it sure sounds like an exhaust manifold gasket leaking on the Magnim.

8th is right around 5.5, just right. Now if the tractor had smaller wheels then yes you’d need 10th. All 3 tractors are running right around 5.5 mph.
