It’s hard to choose a favorite film from Disney’s Golden Age, but I would have to say it’s Bambi. It didn’t receive the praise it deserved. It is an animated masterpiece. The animation is truly a work of art, the thematic weight of the loss of innocence is heartbreaking, and the iconic characters are unforgettable.
@OrtadragoonX

Bambi’s animation quality still stands out to this day in my opinion. It is America’s Akira, a film whose animation looks just as good as anything being released decades later. Akira was recognized immediately for what it was when it was released in 1988. But for Bambi it took decades for everyone to really appreciate just how strong it’s animation was. Walt spared no expense on it and you can tell.

Walt was interested in animation as high art and not just jokes. I think he was willing to really push the medium in interesting directions but ultimately money had to be made and WWII got in the way as well, but these films are a real bright spot. I know many orchestras now make money by playing the scores of films while movies play on a screen and you could say that Fantasia was a precursor to that. I'd love to see a local city orchestra do Fantasia with the animation on a big screen. I'd pay to go see it.

Mine was Pinocchio, they have extremely funny parts that I still think and laugh about. Have you seen the part when Figaro jumped under Geppetto’s nightgown in fright after Pinocchio touched the cat. And admit it, Stromboli is one of the funniest Disney villains ever created, he shakes his big fat ass when going “Constapole”. And the part when the coachman said his infamous line “as boys” his face bears a striking resemblance to Wario.

I have mixed feelings about Pinocchio. It was a fine film with great characters, but it was a bad adaptation of the original story by Carlo Collodi(1882). For so many years I thought Disney movies were just for little kids. Recently, I decided to start watching them again for whatever reason and they're so good. My favorite era has to be the Golden Age, not because it has my favorite Disney movie, but because every movie is a masterpiece. The other eras, even the Renaissance which has my 2 favorites (2. The Lion King 1. Beauty and the Beast), have mediocre or even bad movies. These movies also don't really feel like they are made for kids but rather for adults in a way that kids can enjoy. They are dark as well as endearing classics that are all must-watches. My favorite of this era is Pinocchio. It's quickly risen to be my third favorite Disney movie as well as my favorite horror movie. That's right, I said it! Pinocchio is a frickin' horror movie! I am 14 and got terrified by that movie the other day when I watched it. I remember watching these movies being completely unaffected when I was younger, but I cried during Dumbo and was deeply disturbed by that scene with the bird in Bambi. In short, these are all breathtaking cinematic achievements that I can see myself watching again and again in the future.

One thing this video doesn’t mention is that the War broke out in Europe in 1939, meaning Disney was cut off from its main market outside of the US (they wouldn’t see European releases until 1946). That’s a big part of why most of these films were financial flops. Artistically though… It still blows me away that these visual marvels were made more than 80 years ago, with only barebones technology. A film like Bambi would look incredible if it was released _today_ !

My favourite out of the bunch has always been Bambi, from its beautiful art style of the forest, to its realistic animation of the forest animals, to the simple story, of growing up and experiencing normal life, from birth to finding friends to finding a partner/mate, as well as the hardship of that theres danger ever present. This has everything I love about Disney animation, and is one of my favourite films of all time, I could gush about this masterpiece for hours and never get bored talking about it.

As a kid I never cared for Bambi because I didn't appreciate the work that went in. Now I would agree that its probably one of the best of the era. I go back and forth all the time. Although Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs premiered solely at the Carthay Circle Theater on December 21, 1937, the film was released to general theatrical release on February 4, 1938. I have to say the Golden Age of Disney Animation is my favorite era because I'm all about projects that push artistic boundaries. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Pinocchio, and Fantasia are my top three Disney films for that reason. Not that the studio didn't put out great work afterwards, but I really feel like I have a better understanding of Walt Disney and the kind of man he wanted to be in the eyes of the public. Even the other two that I'm not as crazy about still have something of value to me. Dumbo is really big on conveying strong emotions through the eyes of adorable cartoon characters and the art design of Bambi is simply gorgeous. I feel that we're still at a point where animation is not being taken as seriously despite the efforts of these films and others like Beauty and the Beast. But I love the ambition behind all the films.

My favourite of these is Pinocchio. I'm not sure if it's being remade in live-action, but given that it's already had various live-action adaptations I wouldn't be too surprised. Each adaptation plays the story differently, so it would be interesting to see what Disney does with it. The thing is, when you hear the name Pinocchio, the Disney version instantly springs to mind despite the protagonist being a loose adaptation of his original counterpart. The Pinocchio in the original story is quite the troublemaker, everything BUT Disney incorporated this. And while the 1940 is pretty damn dark (Pleasure Island and the one scene with the Coachman's face come to mind), the original story has Pinocchio BEING HANGED. Not kidding. Anywhom... reason why I love this movie is because it has a handful of memorable characters, however we're left ambiguous to some of their fates. Is the Coachman still kidnapping children? Do Honest John and Gideon ever get arrested (they should have kept in the planned/deleted scene where they did)? How does Stromboli react when he sees the star of his show has escaped? Will Lampwick and the other donkeys ever become human again? And so on and so on. It also has a lot of memorable songs. When You Wish Upon A Star alone has had MANY covers, justified in the fact that this movie is now 80 years old.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs - The Disney movie that started it all, The Dwarfs were hilarious, the Evil Queen was cunning and captivating, the musical sequences were amazing, beautiful visuals and Snow White is a wonderful protagonist. 3. Pinocchio - The cinematography animation is breathtaking and wonderful, the messages were great, When You Wish Upon A Star is an iconic musical masterpiece and the action sequences were spectacular. 4. Bambi - Used to be my favorite from the Golden Age, Bambi and Faline had great chemistry, the voice acting is incredible and the concept of the movie is outstanding. 5. Dumbo - This movie is very emotional and touching. The Crows were hilarious to watch, it also contains a great message. Wow. This is am interesting video. I am on Disney plus. So I decided to watch all the Disney movies in chronological order in release. Then I would like to figure out what I like best. I am started. So far I watched all five golden age movies. My favorite of that era is Snow White. This movie is so cool. It is a fairy tale with a princess in it. I like that stuff. This is a big breakthrough of being the first full length animated movie. Snow White herself is a breakthrough in being the first Disney princess. The movie is the best out of all the golden age movies. However I wouldn't say it is one of the best Disney movies in general. Disney has made much better movies later on than any of the golden age movies. The main thing that got better is having a stronger and more straightforward plot. My second favorite golden age movie is Bambi. I wouldn't call this one of the best Disney movies ever. However it is one of the better golden age movies. Bambi did inspire the Lion King, one of my favorite Disney movies. It is interesting to compare. I do like how artistic Bambi is. The characters are delightfully adorable and well designed. The backgrounds are gorgious. The music is beautiful and relaxing. This movie does have one big story about the life of a deer. This consistancy makes Bambi significantly better than a movie with a bunch of musical clips. The movie I would put in the middle is Fantasia. This movie is a bit of a guilty pleasure for me. I know it isn't a technically good movie. There is a bunch of musical clips with no plot. However I find each clip so enjoyable. I like the beautiful and artistic music and visuals. It is made even more impressive that this was done before CGI. My favorite clip is the Rite of Spring. The dinosaurs are so cool. My second least favorite is Pinoccio. This movie is okay. It is not as good as many other Disney movies. There are some interesting scenes. The adventures with the puppet show, the amusment park and the whale are very exciting. It is shocking with what Disney could get away with. My least favorite movie of the Disney golden age is Dumbo. It is just about a baby elephant looking cute and learning to fly. That is about it. There is a nice moral of not discriminating people who are different. However there are much better Disney movies that teach it, like Frozen, Zootopia and Hunchback of Notre Dame. By standards of general movies, Dumbo is okay. However by Disney standards it is mediochre. I find it interesting in learning the history behind the movies. I think Snow White deserves all the praise it got. It was an amazing movie for its time. After that, this get wierd. I was surprized that out of the four following movies it was Dumbo that had the most commertial success. I thought Bambi and Fantasia were much better movies. I like how artsy they got. They were really experimental. Yet they didn't get as much commercial success. Maybe the public wasn't quite ready for the the more artsy films. Dumbo gives a nice transition from goofy shorts to to more serious full length movies.

1. Bambi: I didn't grow up with Bambi but wow I wish I did. The art in this is breathtaking, The music through out the movie is beautiful. I love the mother son relationship Bambi and his mother has. It definetly hurt when she died, I'm just so happy that in the sequel he gets to see her one last time, that made me so happy. I also love Thumper, Flower, and friend Owl. I always love when he says " Ugh Twitterpated ". I love seeing Bambi and Faline together especially during the " Looking For Romance " scene. I also love that his father takes him in so that he can become THE GREAT PRINCE OF THE FOREST! 2. Fantasia: I can't believe how amazing this movie is! This movie is very artistic, the music is both relaxing and powerful. I just love how the music and the animation flows together so beautifully! 3. Dumbo: I always loved Dumbo growing up, now I love it even more. The mother son relationship they have is so special and every time she sing's " Baby Oh Mine " it always makes me cry. Dumbo is the most adorable disney character I've ever seen, I love that the train Casey Jr. is a character, I love his friend Timothy mouse for helping him as he struggles and set's him up for success. 4. Snow White and the seven dwarfs: I always loved this movie growing up, it's the one that started it all! I love the song's, Hi Ho was always my favorite of the songs. I love all the seven dwarfs but Dopey was always my favorite. I love Snow Whites character and the evil queen is a great villian. 5. Pinocchio: Even though this one is last I still love it and consider it a masterpiece! I love all the songs in the movie, my favorite is the iconic " When You Wish Upon A Star ". I love all the characters but Jiminy Cricket was always my favorite, I also love all the different villians and everything Pinocchio has to go through to become A REAL BOY!
