The Little Mermaid was never about Ariel wanting a man. It was about a young woman who wanted adventure and freedom from her overprotective father and just so happened to fall in love along the way. People really forget how much of a trailblazer Ariel was. She showed people that girls can have hobbies and interests and they don’t have to listen to people who try to stifle them.
@jonnyboy4289

And yes, Ariel did end up being saved in the end of the movie, what else has she done? 1. Outwit a shark and saved Flounder along the way. 2. Killed and destroyed Ursula's eels in the climax. 3. Saved Prince Eric 2 times (one time from drowning and second time from Ursula when she was about to kill him with the trident). Is that good enough? Or is Ariel really another passive typical damsel in distress who is a weak and helpless sissy like Princess Peach from Super Mario Bros. or Mary Jane Watson from Spiderman 2002-2007 or Snow White, Cinderella, and Sleeping Beauty/Princess Aurora (who are passive in their own stories)?

The future of Disney is looking very bleak indeed. Bob Iger will likely push himself as the anti-Chapek for two years, then leave Disney to return to politics with this mantra of "the man who saved Disney." Meanwhile, the integrity and Disney's ability to tell beautiful stories that touch generations will be damaged forever. If Disney really wants to improve, then they need to stop trying to appeal to people on Twitter and TikTok and instead go back to making good stories for everyone. They need to push the boundaries of what you can get away with in animation rather than just follow the pack, or even lag behind in some places. This current trend of pumping out tons of Marvel and Star Wars products makes them money in the short term, but it will hurt them long-term because many of these products have no re-watch value. Many of Disney's movies actually bombed when they first aired, but found new life later on thanks to the longevity of Animation. Their live-action products lack that because they try to root themselves too much into what is currently going on at the time. I'll end this with a quote from Michael Eisner, the last good CEO of Disney, and in my opinion, their second best CEO (faults and all) after Walt himself. “We have no obligation to make art. We have no obligation to make history. We have no obligation to make a statement. But to make money, it is often important to make history, to make art, or to make some significant statement. We must always make entertaining movies, and, if we make entertaining movies, at times, we will reliably make history, art, a statement or all three. We cannot expect numerous hits, but if every film has an original and imaginative concept, then we can be confident that something will break through.”

@@MrTristy22 I don't think that has anything to do with the attack on the Disney Princesses*, but it is a problem too. Animation is treated as "for kids" here in the West, but over in Japan it's treated more seriously, and is doing phenomenal because of it. Manga is also more respected than comic books, and isn't being shackled by being forced to spread a specific message, and because of that the creators can focus on making a good story. Things are so bad for the comics industry over here that Demon Slayer alone makes more money than all of Western comics combined. If that's not an indication that something is rotten in the Western comics industry then nothing is. *That seems to be entirely based around what is perceived as "progressive", and anything that isn't blatantly progressive propaganda is portrayed as misogynistic drivel. Oddly enough the very people making these claims are down playing anything or anyone that is even remotely traditionally feminine as "problematic". It is as if only traditionally male traits are good to them, which is extremely misogynistic.

You know my mom (who's a Disney fan herself and is a major reason why I got into Disney in the first place) thinks I am being too harsh on Disney, especially when it comes to their live action movies (she finds them 'okay). She's my mother and I never want to get into an argument with her so I do drop the subject especially when I can't come up with one of the valid reasons why such things aren't good (I am horrible at remembering such things in the heat of the moment). But I can't change how I feel, and I while I love my mom, I think as long as there are people like her who are okay with these live-action remakes, I think these movies will still be around and Disney won't change for the better. At least my mom got a bit of a wakeup call when we finally went to Disney World last December. Now I had a blast, even with the issues, but I was already aware of these issues and did try to make my mom aware of them as best as I could. She got angry with some of the Cast Members behaviors and the mess that it was trying to get on the Ramatoulie ride (we never got on it, but I wasn't aiming to get on the ride since I knew it be complicated). My mom doesn't think all of these issues started with Iger though since she knew people who had been going to WDW consistently and listens to what they said, at least when it comes to the Parks. So I'll be honest, I am a bit confused, did the Park changes happened under Iger's watch or Chapek's? I know things got WORSE under Chapek.

Probably because film-length animation was a brand-new artform, (there are earlier animated works dating back to the 1890s, but almost always very very brief and experimental), and animation techniques hadn't been perfected. Notably, Snow White used rotoscope to capture movement and form, and all the human characters were based on actual human actors. If the vision was to have more realistic main characters, they might have sacrificed the Prince's role rather than compromise on his design or aesthetic.

And with that being the focus of modern companies, especially Disney, I know they do not respect nor care about the spirit of the originals. If you don't like the originals, fine, but don't dismiss them for the millions of little girls that have grown up loving them and don't think they're toxic. They will basically condemn the women that do like them to try to placate the women that hate them. It makes no sense. It's why I hate when non fans are in creative control of a project. Because real fans will speculate and put out what they would do, things that sound amazing and thought out, but we will never see anything nearly as cool from these people.

Disney hasn't stopped that before since barbie was the 1st to make a Rapunzel flim but again that was still for marketing reasons and it wasn't that well adapted. Disney still make tangled while making their own spin on it and it stand out, a long with never after which has a Rapunzel scene but Minor and Shrek 3 that's the princess but different and Rapunzel is the villain to prince charming. Now the happily ever after wont even exist anymore because she doesn't even care for him She'll just do what exactly everyone didn't want and complained about, run off with him because reasons. (Edit: lol could you imagine that? People going after you as a child and telling you not to talk or express love about your crush bc "all you do is talk about him/her/them" that's sad)

I thought the point of these live action movies was to draw in the nostalgic crowd along with the new generation but the no one is gonna be nostalgic for Hercules simply because we grew up and have since learned actual Greek Mythology. Most people now don't really want to see Hades as the villain because in the mythos, he isn't. Out of all the Greek Gods he's one of the most chill Gods among them. I don't even think he has a petty moment in which a mortal offends him and he then curses them for stupid bullshit like Athena, Hera, or Zues does every waking minute. In fact he's mostly trying to convince stupid mortals *not* to mess with shit they're not supposed to or there will be reason consequences to their arrogance and ignorance.

One of the most loved protagonist by children with the increasing popularity of anime among youth all over is tanjiro from demon slayer. When I think of Snow White her and him seem to follow a similar character outline. The maintenance of a positivity and helping others in spite of the suffering they faced. Maybe I’m just being a weeb but a lot of Disney princesses share a lot in common with popular characters in the current day. Especially seeing how some values of these characters seem to be timeless.

A female character not needing a man is a cliché in itself at this point, it's well over 20 years old. There's virtually nothing novel about it anymore, and all Disney does is make itself look foolish every time its new Princess stars mention it.

I love all of the princesses and what they trying to do to all of them is beyond disgusting but for me personally what they’re trying to do to my girl, Snow White Nenonen out that one I am ticked off. I’m beyond ticked off that’s just nasty. that is the girl who made you who you are today Disney and you are spitting in her face and you don’t even care.

Your problem is you assume they "messed it up". They didn't. The message has changed. The society they are programming is different from the society we're living in now. This is intentional. Nothing happens in a vacuum.

Yeah the Simpsons did a better version of Pinocchio than the live action remake. At the very least that version made me laugh! kzitem.info/news/bejne/sH-E3oaDqqJli5g As far as Disney's future goes? It looks rather bleak. First they try and fail at making live action remakes that we didn't really need. Then they butcher Starwars and now Indiana jones apparently. They pushing and cramming in as much Woke and LGBT representation into their works as possible to please a small minority. If Disney doesn't wake up now, start listening to their TARGET audience, get on the ball and start making quality entertainment it isn't going to end well. They need to realize it's not a crime to show straight white masculine heroes to save the day now and then! They need to realize that while LGBT people do exist that you don't need to remind people every fifteen minutes and you don't have to bend over backwards to please them or act as if they're entitled to have every single one of your works to represent them in some small way. And most importantly they need to realize that people just want to be ENTERTAINED! To have fun! And not be lectured and preached at!
