Good call since wanting Riley to be gay doesn’t even make sense continuity wise since she was already into boys in both the first film and the short film tie in Riley’s First Date. Also Lightyear's problem wasn't really the gay kiss but more of the fact that Lightyear was just a terrible movie that Disney use the gay kiss scene as a marketing ploy to deflect criticism of the actual film’s quality.

Was the company actually changed at any point in this? I don't mean changing out employee 1A for new employee 1B. I mean inherently the company structure and the problems Pixar has has with this kind of problem being persistent being changed at all. Every living human (and nearly all animals) have a biological father and a mother. THIS is the norm and for at least 95% of the population of children a father and a mother is the daily experience. Forcing a movie about a teen girl going through puberty (y'know, the time when girls get a better grasp on themselves and realize which way they swing) to be less gay is heartbreaking. Kids who *do* need this kind of story are left in the dark. There is no risk taking in appealing to the widest possible audience, no creativity, there is no leap to create a truly touching story that resonates with the audience when you're chasing the most money. Once something appeals to everyone for too long, it'll become stagnant and appeal to no one.

Appealing to a tiny fraction of a percent of a wider audience isn’t risk-taking creativity. It’s suicidally idiotic. The thing that is heartbreaking is the pollution and destruction of formerly hugely popular franchises in pursuit of an audience that is entirely fictional. What a waste.
@patrickthomas2119

So not seeing a film with gay representation can have detrimental impact on young people going through puberty and might be gay. Sooo why would not seeing a film with straight representation have the exact same impact on young straight people going through puberty who make up like 95% of the population. I wonder why you cherry pick the “community” and elevate it above the needs of the many. Or you know, it is just all crap and people don’t need to be pandered to in order to feel a character is relatable. They just need well written characters in a well written story. Amazing.
@Qephyr
9 күн бұрын
@@patrickthomas2119 Exactly, you’ve proved my point. A story should be well written to be enjoyed and to keep going the route of mass appeal will result in the same stuff be shoveled to you over and over. It doesn’t have to pander per se, it just has to give us something different. Like you said, straight people make up the mass majority. Straight couples are HEAVILY represented in media and society as a whole wheras those in smaller groups get slim pickings. Representation matters to those who barely receive it (although disney’s representation is not at all the best with how they shill out and make a big deal about it)
@Qephyr
9 күн бұрын
@@OutOfElmo I’d say it’s pretty risk taking given how many parts of the world look down upon it and how much unexplored potential there is to be found within these types of relationship dynamics. Having a gay character shouldn’t be a big deal as long as the story told with them is good. You say modern audiences as if this type of media hasn’t existed for centuries (ex: Sappho’s poetry, Rocky Horror Picture Show, etc) and newer GOOD movies coming out (Nimona being an example) of having a gay main character and still having a good story. The reasons why these movies are flopping is because they’re bad. Cope harder and keep eating that same slop they’ll continue to feed you.
