So this movie was already failing when my dad and I decided to go see it. It was… good. Like… real good lol. We both loved it! I was so disappointed how audiences had acted towards it. My boyfriend at the time had read the books and saw the film. He said it was somewhat faithful and he was fine with it. As someone who never read the books, my dad and I loved it. Sad it failed so badly. Now… Prince of Persia??? Garbage trash fire. Way to take a really beautiful captivating fairytale and turn it into something so bullshit I could seriously barely recognize the end product. Wtf??? The game had this PERFECT story. The first game anyways.. (the sequel kinda shit alllll over the first game). But the first game was so perfect, they’d only need to FUCKING ADAPT IT. Why in the absolute fuck would they change SOOOO MUCH!?!?!????!!! The princess? wtf??? She was so fucking bland and just this white chick with a British accent???? WTF?!?! In game shes this beautiful slave who breaks free and ends up having this truly earned romance with our prince. Then at the end the Prince is telling her the story of his adventure so they could stop it from happening. That’s perfect! She doesn’t remember her adventures with him but she hears all about it and I believe ends up feeling for the Prince again even though they didn’t have that same journey.

I know you want to focus on 2010's Disney films that failed but honestly this trend more or less kinda started around 2008- 2009 with movies like Race to Witch Mountain and G-Force. This movie completely ignored the original plot. Sands of time is a critically acclaimed game and is easily one of the best games made by Ubisoft. Had the makers stuck with the original plot, the movie would have done well and would have given Disney the opportunity to make additional sequels with Warrior Within and Two Thrones.
@ProjectKhopesh

I suspect they wouldn't have gone into R rated territory with The Warrior Within and Two Thrones, if we're talking about faithfulness to the source. That said, I agree, Sands of Time is *right there* and it's great. Then again, Disney also completely failed to do the smart thing and adapt the Thrawn trilogy over in Star Wars. It's kind of a Thing with them; take a beloved IP and mangle it, trying to cash in on the existing fans, while futzing around with it enough to reveal their contempt for the source and the audience.
@OlgaZuccati

@@ProjectKhopesh i mean, movies can be unfaithful to the source material and still be successful, the issue is that there was barely any artistic vision behind it, it was just a movie constructed by executives based entirely on perceived trends (which is basically how most disney movies are made these days).

Not that I didn't hate that war but hacky criticism in a blockbuster film is annoying. Jake G looks fine, ethnically, for this role btw. His facial features are a bit more European than a locals would be but his skin tone ia pretty close to Persia. There’s a massive hoodoo over video game films and I’m not sure why. They have a built in audience, for a start. But they also have an established cinematic world. It should be incredibly straightforward. But for some reason producers and directors decide to complete forget that and try to create something else. I can only assume they’ve never played video games or are trying to impress their children or something. Hopefully we’re far enough into the 21st century that people making films now actually played the games and have a love for them when they’re recreating them as films. I hold out a very shallow hope, but I suppose it’s possible

So, people didn’t like the movie partly because of the actor’s skin color? How racist of them, they should’ve been more open minded. I think all of those are bad simply because of the historical and geographical setting. I like this one. It's not a great adaptation of the Sands of Time, but it's a fun enough film on its own (though Jake was indeed miscast... he's decent enough to be engaging, but it would have been great to have a real Persian descendant in the role... if they were competent and not just cast for diversity's sake). Weirdly, I think a more faithful adaptation would have been worse, though, as they would have tried harder to lean into the Warrior Within and Two Thrones, which were gross missteps in their own way. There's no way that Disney would have adapted those faithfully, veering hard into R rated territory.

This one might still be out there, but I haven’t seen it in years (EDIT: video is “Jake Gyllenhaal gets full grilling” by On Demand Entertainment). Second, Jake Gyllenhaal laughing at the interviewer (Ryan Seacrest?) for being asked about wearing sandals as part of his costume. This clip was also featured on The Soup, hosted by Joel McHale. Complaining about the ethnicity of Jake Gyllenhaal for this movie is just plainly racist (and ignorant, given that many Iranians have a fair skin). It's not even the actor's nationality that is put into question, it is his ancestry. Having Iranian people in your family tree does not make you Iranian, and more authentic or qualified to play an Iranian character, let alone a Persian character. There is nothing wrong if an actor plays a character of another nationality. Again, stating otherwise is plainly racist. It is putting an Apartheid on the stage floors. Should the role of the Russian Dr Zhivago have been refused to the Egyptian actor Omar Sharif? Should Peter Ustinov have been considered for the role of the Emperor of Ethiopia? What about the actors of Black Panther? Africans played by Americans? Or the black nobles in the court of Denmark in Kenneth Branagh's Hamlet?

So this movie out of the "Disney failed next big thing" series is probably my second favorite losing out to John Carter, which sounds a bit weird cause I have had a HEAVY Alfred Molina Bias ever since I watched the Hoax one time completely by accident cause it came on after another movie I had playing which I cannot remember. But I do love this film, maybe one of the few that do, I enjoy the references to the games ( the sands/dagger) and the Parkour), I enjoyed the story and characters which I am pretty sure are not in the games. I waited a while to leave this comment cause I really wanted to think about this video and how you felt about it and it made me really think, no matter how much I like parkour action and stuff some of my favorite moments in the film (that is not every gleaming second Alfred Molina is on screen) are in fact the slow parts, the part where Dastan and Tamina are in a tent riding out a sand storm exchanging information and trying to figure stuff out, the war counsel meeting at the beginning of the movie where they are deciding whether to attack Alamut or not where if you are a repeat watcher you may notice the tiniest hint of who the baddy is from this scene, which I find interesting, the one scene where Garsiv stops charging and yelling for 2 seconds to actually have an actual sort lived conversation, I could go on but this comment will already be too long but yeah I like a lot of the slow scenes. I don't wanna go too deep into it but as far as Jake Gyllenhaal goes I can't really harbor any ill will towards him for doing this movie, make up and wardrobe did their thing and he definitely looked like the game character, yeah white washing is always weird but if I chose to be made at him I'd have to be mad at like 98% of the damn cast, like.. I think almost EVERYONE in this movie is British or English... like what's going on here, I can't think of one actor off the top of my head that I looked up and had any sort of middle eastern roots, if I missed one someone please tell me, I need to know. All in all I'm just not the critical movie watcher, I just love watching movies and some of my favorites are just big time bombs, the Prince of Persia has the silliest pacing, all the silly questionable decisions, why didn't Dastan try to get the robe off the king at all? cause the writers need him to be framed for his murder, oh sorry silly me. Story has little in common with the games other than the sands of time and the dagger, the cuts are ridiculous. Oh and my favorite part, Seso's signature google maps pin point knife throw out the temple tower right into a skinny tree right by the good guys... which to be honest leads into my favorite call back of the movie mainly cause I love Seso and Sheik Amar's whole dynamic. the movie has flaws all around but despite all that It still hold a little special place in my heart right next to John Carter. Sorry this comment was so damn long, I had so much I wanted to say about this movie flaws and all, which is a big step up from my one line John Carter comment, probably cause I don't think John Carter needs any more, it was a joy to see how many people flocked to that video same as me and voiced their love and admiration for that film, I just don't think I can say the same for Prince of Persia.

I don't know what would have been Disney if Tim Burton never make Alice in Wonderland probably the live-action division will get shut down and the only focus on Marvel and Star wars

Persia is Iran, which are a Caucasian people. Iran is Farci for Aryian. It wasn't until the ottoman invasion did the bloodlines begin to change. So Gyllenhaal actually fits in ancient Persia. It is not the middle east. You are thinking of Arabs. Lots of Iranian people have blue eyes or green eyes and fair skin. Especially the farther north you go in the country or up in the mountains.

Didn't really help that Ubisoft's games already told the whole story of that particular prince and a completely new oe (the pirate look-a-like one) was introduced in 2008's reboot.

The first time I watched it, I actually hated it. I thought the dagger was a cool concept but the romance between the protagonists (which is a big part of the plot) was just too bad. However with time, for some reason here in Italy they used to broadcast it almost ever Christmas lol, I started to enjoy it more. The romance is still the weakest part but it has some cool action sequences and, like I said, the dagger is such a cool idea! I wish they had used it more. Last year I finally played the game and I was surprised fans were sad it didn't follow the game more since it doesn't really have that much story. Just an excuse for the gameplay. I think the did an excellent job in adapting it into a movie.

What is up with Disney and making underwhelming live action original movies? Pirates is seriously the only one capable of being the good one. The rests are...yea

This movie is so bland and generic, so devoid of atmosphere and full of stupid ideas that I don't even want to think about it. Moreover, the BD release is of hopeless quality.

Used to hate this movie, because it's so uninspired and cheesy, but over the years it has become one of my "so bad it's good" movies and I love it lmao

10:07 Gyllenhaal's mother is Jewish,[9][10][11][12] and was born in New York City into an Ashkenazi Jewish family from Russia and Poland.[13][14] Gyllenhaal has said that he considers himself Jewish.[15][16] On his 13th birthday, Gyllenhaal performed a "Bar Mitzvah-like act, without the typical trappings", volunteering at a homeless shelter because his parents wanted to give him a sense of gratitude for his privileged lifestyle.[17][18]

Well, technically, Iranians are related to Europeans, about 3000 years back, but I still get some of the complaints, lol

I never even registered the race issue with Jake Gyroform till now I was just to dumbfounded by the unironic leading man Jake Ganondorf casting, in general He just looks like an out of place freak everywhere, its why his best movies are Nigthstalker and Donnie Darko

Pirates was genuinely good and original, all of these other failed franchises they tried to launch they just copy/pasted what they did with people that did not care about the projects. You could see it in the old interviews of the cast and crew. Their laughs, interest in what each other are saying etc are fake in these failed Pirates clones.

I was very excited for this movie. I love the sands of time video game trilogy. This movie was very disappointing.

Who cares how much money the producers made on this movie?! If a lot of people went to see the movie, that's a success, period.

If they start with selling merchandise for kids, I'd expect a movie for kids.
