Agreed, using up such a giant annex of space (which Disneyland is notoriously short on) for something like Tron just seems like a waste. I agree. I’ve been going to Disneyland since I was 2 (43 years old now) while the sound is nostalgic this wasn’t the reason it was my favorite ride as a child. The freedom of being able to drive a car on your own was tops! With adding artificial sound I’m pretty sure the experience would be identical if not even cooler if it varies by car. When the local go kart track went to all electric people were skeptical as well, now there is no question electric is better. The new ride might even be more fun because of the instant torque!

I don't think I'd build an entire land based on Tron - but if it's going to be part of DCA, why not make that corner "Silicon Valley"? Tbh, I think the concept of a "tech expo" area where guests get transported into new worlds via computer could support both Lightcycle Run and Flight of Passage (especially if you're right about them doing an Earth-based Avatar experience, rather than building another full Pandora). And, maybe they can bring in some interactive exhibits, like what they used to have at the EPCOT version of Innoventions. Food can be another Space 220, or a similar futuristic themed concept. As for EV cars in Autopia - what if we put baseball cards in the spokes?

Autopia was an opening day attraction, one of Walt’s favorites. I first went on there in 1959 when I was 2, then decades later took my little girl on it and before that many nieces and nephews. I guess something you never did. As for “fun”, I guess the 100-million people who have ridden on it, with their kids, or alone as an adult…never had any fun? Why is it still so busy and a go-to attraction for so many guests? Maybe I am just mis-interpreting what you wrote…. They COULD do a tron land, but also make it part of both old and new Tron. There were plenty of things from both movies that you could include. You could have a solar sail, dark ride similar to Pan but more exciting, have grid spiders and power surges, etc. Have the tower guardians and the bars/restaurants. Remember how popular the Tron night party was? It really does lend itself to something like Cars land. Where it's nice during the day, but really pops at night. Peoplemover COULD be fixed. Repair techniques are much better than even 5 years ago. Its just that corporate disney doesn't want to put money into ANYTHING that's NOT IP! People mover would never even be built today because it has no IP connection or merch to promote. That's the REAL reason. If they can jack up and support whole entire major building around the world, build tunnels underneath them and whole structures around those same tunnels all at the same time, they can fix peoplemover. Take out Star Wars launch bay, and Autopia. You can now fit Tron. You can have a one entry park. No problems with sound. And it will add excitement as you are driving towards Disneyland, from a visual standpoint. Leave the new park for avatar. Which will add to continuity of theme in the new park.

Great video, interesting ideas. If they are worried about potential noise issues, why not put in Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind, it's entirely indoors? It also fits with the existing Marvel theme of DCA, although it would be over the other side of the park. And if you want to put something new in Tomorrowland, why not move Star Tours into Batuu. The footprint isn't too big, I'm pretty sure it would fit in the space behind First Order Cargo fairly easily, and it makes so much more sense there.

If Disney Forwarded was approved I honestly would try and not replicate ride or themed land that already exists somewhere else and put it in Disneyland. No I would try something new and different that would want to extract people. I feel like they should go back into the archives and look up some of the concept arts for lands that weren’t built and build them in space for Forwarded. Or even take page of of DisneySea’s or other inter-national parks and take some of that and apply it to Forwarded project in their own way. We don’t need other Tron coaster, or replicate ride or land what we need is something new and exciting and breathtaking. That’s what Walt Disney would do.

I’m down for a TRON land for sure. Rides based on both movies would be amazing. They could bring back some kind of useable people mover to take you to the Disney Forward area. One for each park and maybe one between the north and south ends of the expansion. Ticket/Pass is what gains you access. Autopia, I’m fine if it got quieter, but the rest needs to stay as far as bumpy and difficult to steer. Tomorrowland could be shut down in sections for lengths of time. It might take longer, but a remodel could be doable in my opinion.

The consensus seems to be that Rocket Rods destroyed its infrastructure integrity so much that it could never be salvaged. Why is it so hard to imagine that the People Mover track couldn't be rebuilt and/or reinforced? The interior tracks are integral to the show buildings it resides in, as David mentioned, but those seem to be the least affected by the RR inertial damage. The exterior portions _can_ be fixed structurally and with an innovative maglev system. Not an inexpensive proposition, but it can be done. And move Astro Orbiter back onto the PM loading platform!

In the Disneyland Forward Concept/ Rendering package that was released a while back, there is a Schematic "Arial/ Floor Plan" of the new areas surrounding the hotels. If you look to the right of the monorail station in this plan, it looks like there are secondary ticket booths and entry gates near the purple buildings for each new area. This would solve the issue of people having to go back to the main gates to enter and exit.

I personally think they could fit tron into Tomorrowland, if they just got a different manufacturer to make the ride. Floridas is made by vekoma, if they were to get a model from, for example, intamin, the track and vehicles would be smaller, and intamin has more experienced designers to handle hard design challenges such as Tomorrowland. Plus, it wouldn’t have to be the exact same ride, it could be its own layout and experience, completely different than Floridas. On top of that intamin has drop tracks and elevator tracks, which could be used to make use of more space.

Is it possible to take out the people mover track that we see just to open up the walkway? Or would that effect the buildings it’s attached to? If that can’t be done, maybe underneath the tracks could be repurposed for something? And the loading entrance for what was the people mover could be turned into a nice fireworks viewing area? Small outdoor restaurant?

Personally I think when they bring Avatar to Disneyland resort it's going to go to DCA in Grizzly peak since it would be an easy redesign. There's no ip's tied to that area and it already has a big nature aspect to it. Soaring over the world/California is very similar to how Avatar flight of passage works plus the Grizzly river run can just be redesigned to the Na'vi River Journey easily as well. Then they can keep the play ground but theme it like Pandora based off the kids in the movie and add new aspect to it that would be fun for kids. I know people wouldn't want it to change but it seems to be the best option from what I see and they might do a great job. We would have to say goodbye to Soarin but this isn't the first time they reskinned a beloved attraction.

DL is expanding. When the transportation hub is moved from Harbor Blvd to the new parking structure on Manchester Ave on the CM parking lot there will be room. Now look at Tomorrowland expanding to there including the back stage area, could be enough room for Tron. It would provide kinetic energy to Harbor Blvd.
@stanfordite1

No it's not. There shouldn't be any more expansion of Disneyland anyway. We'd rather have Disneyland contract even if that means bulldozing DCA and turning it back into a parking lot.

I agree with you on Autopia, with a caveat. I agree that given the current political and environmental climate, there's a virtual certainty that any future update to Autopia will feature electric vehicles. I also agree that the lack of noise will remove much of the kineticism and character of the attraction. However, I also believe that this is exactly what Disney wants. Disney wants to build something else on the spot where Autopia sits. However, they don't want to anger everyone by simply ripping Autopia out all at once. So they will update Autopia, and if ridership drops off, they will have an excuse to demolish it. Plus, as you point out, the PeopleMover is not returning, so those tracks will eventually be removed from the Autopia area as well. Of course, the Autopia and PeopleMover tracks are integrated with the Finding Nemo submarines, so this is not a project they want to undertake anytime soon.

I believe that if the Disney parks start to invest super heavily into Avatar it most likely will end up failing to meet expectations severely just like Star Wars did in the parks. Although it did super well financially, I think there certain nuances that effect the demand for Avatar. Also, I just want more variety of rides.

The Tron plan and a few other rides in that space would be absolutely huge for the new Pixar Pier hotel, I am really surprised that Disneyland is not thinking of growing itself into the current Downtown district a bit more building around both of the other Disney hotels to create a huge amount of immersion for all three hotels.

On the topic of closing much of Tomorrowland for an extended period of time, how long has Future World been under construction at Epcot?
@wheelindisney5874

Tomorrowland. I still think it needs a bulldozer for everything except Space Mountain. Perhaps that could be accomplished in phases, but I think they'd get more mileage out of a single rebuild project. While it might take 5 to 10 years to plan it all out, I think the construction could be accomplished in a year. Close it, rebuild it, reopen it. The hype they could generate for a project like that would be tremendous. And then we could get a really good new new Tomorrowland rather than do the work in dribs and drabs that generate little excitement and could make Tomorrowland an endless construction project (like Epcot!) that people actively avoid.

No matter what they do with Tomorrow Land, Autopia be it gas or electric, is key to Walt's target audience, children! I am so tired of adults with no children saying to get rid of Autopia. Also, I am sorry, but I do not see why they could not fix the People Mover track as it sits. The problem is what to do with the platform where the rocket ships use to be.

How about a version of Disney Quest called Flynn's Arcade, filled with classic arcade games and banging 80's music....with a gateway in the back ... with a prop large digitizer in the movie that gateways you into this Tron-Verse. Have one of those not-so-secret entrances that brings you out into a reveal of the land....sort of like another major theme park did with a major IP that it got the rights to.
