We really had a blast while we were in So Cal for Christmas! "We".. as in the whole family, had been planning this trip since the previous summer. Our granddaughter is just at the right age to really be impressed with the magic of Disneyland. As grownups, we get to relive that magic! I really hated to see it come to a close! It was the fastest week on record! Making and sharing our experience helps to remember all the fun we had! We shall return!!

We were planning on an ECCOT show when we got there at some point, but some great history tied to Disneyland is making me think another one is needed> AND we were planning a show as a followup called Walking without Walt on his death and the growth of Disneyland after he died. BUT WOW. Some great stuff happened as we were shooting so that's become 2 shows.

I remember when I brought my son to Disneyland, It was the first time for his mother and I, he was only 2 or three and got his head stuck in the fencing that control the folks who wanted to go on the Dumbo ride. Good thing he did not have big ears or we would still be there 27 years later.

What a fantastic 4 part series! I too miss the old Mine Train probably more than any other attraction that is gone. It was a great ride and somewhat based on Walt’s “True Life Adventures” films. The main thing about the Mine Train is that anyone could ride it. A one year old, grandparents and so on unlike Big Thunder (which we do like a lot). As much as I love Disneyland now, I think my favorite era was from about 1967 to about 1976. It was a simpler time with most of the original stuff still there, the old ABCDE tickets, no Fastpass needed, and it was about $12 for a ticket book and if you just wanted to go in a walk around general admission was about $6, great for grandparents who wanted to enjoy the park with the kids but didn’t care to ride anything (but there were lot’s of entertainment and a few free attractions).

Toy Man Television - Many years ago, you could take a ride around the loop at EPCOT on old double decker buses but I've been told because the park is so busy, the tourists so stupid and the liability insurance so high that they were taken out of service in the mid 90's. I also haven't seen a horse trolley running at The Magic Kingdom since the mid 90's either and I can assume it's met the same fate for the same reasons. At last check there are only 3 trains running at WDW, the original large train, Big Thunder Mountain and The People mover. As a little boy way Way WAY back in the day the 1954 version of the book 'The Little Engine That Could' was my favorite read at bedtime, probably drove my dad nutz. The story traces back in the USA to 1906 with many variations since including Disney's take on it when Casey Jr was introduced as a circus train in the 1941 classic DUMBO. When we were at the door to our sleeper car on the Texas Eagle in Chicago the car attendant greeting us heard me muttering "I think I can I think I can". I knew right away she had kids because she said "Tillie up front will tell you I knew I could I knew I could". en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Little_Engine_That_Could GREAT video, thanks!!

So sad to see the familiar rides go away. We just learned that some major changes are happening at Disneyland's California Adventure..Where the theme is all PIXAR. The big Ferris Wheel with the Mickey Mouse face, and the California Screamer at Paradise Pier, is being changed. WHAT? The theme will be something to do with the Incredibles.. Can't even feature! So we shall see! Dale and I marvel that we may have had some of the last footage of Paradise Pier as it has been, before being changed.. I guess we will have to go back. :/

They really tore the place up right after we left. Paradise Pier is going totally away. Will be rethemed as Pixar. Both the roller coaster and the Farris Wheel are closed. The station for the roller coster is GONE. It's becoming the home from the incredibles. So there goes the 19th century look.

I don't think Disney ever did an adaptation of The Little Engine that could. Casey Jr was created by Ward Kimball for Dumbo and his first debut was in the Sound Design segment in The Reluctant Dragon. Then he was later redesigned in the production of Dumbo. In The Reluctant Dragon, Frances Gifford provided the voice using a device called the Sonovox. A pair of small loudspeakers connected to an amplifier that played sounds at a high volume to which the performer puts to his/her throat and mouths the words to the sound being played. Margaret Wright later took over as the voice of Casey Jr for Dumbo.
@ToyManTelevision
2 жыл бұрын
Hi. The little engine that could was the base story behind dumbo. The little engine was a popular childhood book and I guess Disney felt the story would be better with a anthropomorphic elephant. Anyway the locomotive in the story named for Casey Jones is the little engine. The ride at Disneyland has two steep hills. And the sound track on the larger hill has Casey Jones saying the iconic “I think I can I think I can”.

Another fun screwing around adventure! Thank you both! But please, start pronouncing Olomana (the engine) correctly. That's a Hawaiian word and should be "oh-loh-mah-nah". You're missing the vowel in the second syllable. English speakers often mispronounce Hawaiian words, which is predictable and understandable, but what English speakers don't understand is that they often end up saying something VERY RUDE and scatological, even if they don't intend to.

Thanks for the heads up on the on how to pronounce Olomana... We understand how that goes! We hear that all of the time, living here in Utah. Many of the towns are named after angels and prophets in connection with the Mormon religion, and Native Americans from the area. Many adopt a "local" dialect. My favorite is the town of Tooele. (Pronounced Too-ill-ah). Then there is the town of Hurricane, near our famous Zion National Park... Most folks know what a Hurricane is, and how to say it. But if one is visiting THAT town.. The locals will be quick to tell you, It's not Hurricane... It's Hur-i-Cun!"
