DISORDERED EATING VS EATING DISORDERS
This subject matter is far too deep to discuss in a 90-second IG reel. I do want to respond to my response and what was intended.
The truth is that there are general guidelines to health that are universal. When it comes to diet, it is important to remember that we are all UNIQUE. To follow the diet of another is not necessarily going to be the plan for you. The individual in this video clearly was in a specific phase of her goals. I doubt this is her 24/7. Keep in mind the following for YOU:
*Age/stage of life
*Afflictions/disorders/health issues
*Personal goals/lifestyle
#1 Rule: SUSTAINABLE
This will look DIFFERENT for all of us. Please remember that what you see on social media is specific to that person. We also do not know what is real on this platform.... There is nothing wrong with using these examples as inspiration but verbatim-not!
What is the difference between Disordered Eating and Eating Disorders, then?
In brevity, one who has an EATING DISORDER (ED, anorexia, bulimia, restrictive food intake, etc. is in the midst of such. Ideally, they are receiving professional care to get through such and learn to have a healthier relationship with food. DISORDERED EATING (DE) individuals may have some of the behaviors of the aforementioned but are not necessarily afflicted with a full-on syndrome. Examples of DE can include: fasting, binge eating, skipping meals, avoiding certain types of foods, as well as darker symptoms of self-induced vomiting, laxatives, or diet pills-the latter of which are seen more in a full ED case.
Whenever one is restrictive in their diet, it is natural to go to the opposite extreme. It is human nature to want what we feel we can not have. Left without, most go off the deep end in some kind of negative food behavior. Which is why I stood firm on my ground that RESTRICTIVE EATING CAN AND OFTEN DOES LEAD TO ED BEHAVIORS. It is inevitable that an individual can and often does end up on the spectrum. My warning was coming from a heart place in educating all to seek what is right for YOU.
