Spectrum has seven colours and because of the very small wavelengths of violet and indigo the two colours combine and that's why you can see seven colours I think I cleared the doubt

I still don't understand why the triangle shape separate the colors and the rectangle or square don't, we can see only a refraction? In another words, how the photon knows the glass has different shapes and decide to take different directions?
@arthamgoutham9476

celio gouvea A light ray is refracted that means bent, when it passes from one medium to another at an angle and its speed changes. At the interface, it is bent in one direction if the material it enters is denser that is when light slows down and in the other direction if the material is less dense that is when light speed up. Because different wavelengths (colours) of light travel through a medium at different speeds, the amount of bending is different from different wavelength.

celio gouvea and another one in rectangle or square...when light passes through glass, encounters two interfaces, one entering and other leaving. It slows down at the first interface and speeds back up at the second. if two interface surfaces are parallel to each other, as in a slab of glass, all of the bending (and didpersion) that takes place at the first interface is exactly reversed at tge second, undoing the effect of the first interface. so emerging ray of light is displaced slightly from entering ray. all wavelengtgs seperated at first interface in recombined at second interface so the ray remained same...

Artham Goutham density is mass/volume, you mean, if we take a centimeter cube from different locations in the prism, they will have different densities?
@arthamgoutham9476
7 жыл бұрын
yes density can vary..
@celiogouvea
7 жыл бұрын
Artham Goutham no, the density is the same in all areas, I think there is no explanation for that yet, the shape play a role on this matter. The density bent light but, not in this case, it's a different cenário. Calculation doesn't explain, the constants a, b and c are probably based on experiments, not densities. I believe the density of dark matter could play a role on the dispersion. Thank you anyways!
