So, my explanation and my theory about the film. Spoilers. The chest is a magical portal to a fairytale world and the jewel necklace is a talisman connected with it, a magical key. The book is the story played in the chest and that was his fairytale and the same story happens it seems every time the chest opens. What opens the chest is what they’ve done, a kiss when touching the chest. They transported to the fairytale land, playing the tale, seemingly unaware of the “real world” when in the fairytale world. They act as they belong there. The talisman along with the chest seems to be a family heirloom and the grandfather along with his wife (that wore the jewel in the photograph) probably experienced the tale. His death in the fairytale transported him to the real world but the jewel stayed behind in the river. When he touched the chest though, it lighted up. Is he connected now with the chest and the fairytale world without the talisman? It seems so. It seems his fairytale isn’t over yet, he is destined to go back to save her from the enchantment. Oh, and the shadow things probably weren’t real but just a hallucination produced by the barbarians so the the couple trust them and enchant Nina. I think the story needed about 10 minutes more, but it’s a great effort nonetheless.

I like to change your theory a bit: The chest stands for the hearts of two persons, the necklace is the love, the key for it. He gave the key to her, and by believing she loved him too, they were able to open their hearts for each other. That led to a happy time with each other, were everything is beautifull and perfect. They indeed aren't aware what happens in the "real world" because they just have eyes for each other. A real fairytale. But then came the shadows... maybe they were just in their imagination, maybe they were a real threat. They stand for everything that can be happen in a relationship: jealousy, lies, cheating... whatever. But there are friends at your side, helping to defend you and your loved one from those shadows, or do they? Everyone will know, that not every friend is a real friend and that there are some barbarians out there, who are not embarrassed to make your partner to go with them. And when your partner turns against you, it hurts. It is like a knife, maybe an arrow, in your back. You feel this pain in your chest too, like there is another arrow in there. And then you die in your fairytale world, in those beautifull world where you loved each other. You wake up in the real world, alone, with nobody left to talk or support you. Alone... You want to go back, in to the fairytale world. But it is over, and your partner closed their heart, so the chest isn't open anymore. But the key to your own heart still belongs to your partner. Trapped, maybe forever, in a world you can't get back. But is the adventure over? What if there are other fairytale worlds? What if someone else has a necklace and gifts it to you? It is a story about love, betray and heartbreak. And if there is a sequel i would hope it is without Nina. At first i thougt i wouldn't understand this movie, but thanks to your theory, i came to my own. Now i am crying, remembering those fairytale worlds i experienced, and those lost necklaces...

Some people prefer a happier ending, and one not so open to interpretation. A lot wasn't explained. Why did they turn Nina against Emil? What was their motivation? Who were the Barbarians? So many questions, so little dialogue. I'm still upvoting--I enjoyed the story immensely. But I can understand why some would find it too unusual for their tastes

That was surprisingly very professional. The actor playing Emil was strongly believable from the very beginning. My Norwegian is very poor; even though it's home, so I had to use subtitles. But it flowed so nicely that I barely realized I was reading them while watching it. Of course an Epic location but also the score was perfect and *not* overdone. I could have watched a lot more. Really like a lot of this highly performed zero budget production. Very lucky last minute cast (Emilie Sophie)!!! Amazing locations, good lighting, good story (only question: Why did the Barbarian wizard bewitch her? Jealous?), really good acting and directing, nice set design (Maybe the chest is a little bit overdone. Though it`s a magic chest, I`ld prefer a really old damaged look), great epic music Thomas (except the heartache song in the end). I bow my head for you guys.

The massive time and energy that went into making this film definitely doesn't go unnoticed. Each person involved in this project played their part well and deserves all the right recognition.
