Drunk and distracted driving need to both be punished in the same way. For adults twenty years minimum behind bears with no parole or early release. Permanently banned from driving, and a million dollar fine minimum. If the offender is a minor then triple the amount. So it is sixty years minimum for anyone between the ages of sixteen and eighteen. Also a permanent ban on driving. The same goes for buzzed driving ( on drugs).

I will never understand why people use their devices or do anything besides putting 100% focus on their driving. I'm 23. When I started driving at 16, just like smoking and drinking, it never crossed my mind to try it. I could NEVER do what these idiots do. Just because you see everyone else doing it doesn't make it right, nor make you invincible. Whatever it is, it can wait. If it's an emergency, pull the hell over!! There are so many options, and people choose the selfish route. The idea of not focusing on the road and doing something else scares the hell out of me. I had a foster mom who would always be on her phone, and I would yell at her to put it away. I told her she is risking all our lives as well as those around us. She wouldn't get it. She got into an accident while I was at school. It was a t bone accident. No fucking doubt it was her distracted driving. She has been in prior accidents, and I bet all my savings most or all of them had to do with her distracted driving. Anyone who does this boils my blood. I never drive when I don't feel 100%. And when I do drive, I am focused on only that.

100% agree with you. It's unbelievable that people value being on their phone 24/7, speeding to make up for their own failure of being on time, and their sad addictions over theirs and strangers' lives. Punishments for distracted and drunk driving should be much worse than they are now.

My father, one of my uncles, and my best friend were each killed by distracted drivers in separate crashes (they weren't "accidents"). The perpetrators not only killed these men, but they also destroyed spouses, children, families. Operating behavior was bad enough 30 years ago -- now the dangers are ubiquitous, the vast majority of aimers (they're not drivers) practice horrible habits on the roads. They don't signal, or maintain their lanes, or properly merge, or keep safe distances, or maintain velocity, or keep their eyes on the road. If you ask the average aimer why he/she failed to signal, the excuse is something like, "Well, there's nobody there." The fools don't understand why signaling intentions is the law: it's as if giving signals and obeying any traffic laws is some sort of self-gratification rather than the correct, legal way to operate a vehicle. America needs to wake up! It's time to apply fines and penalties for distracted driving that are equal to or greater than those sanction for perps caught DUI/DWI.

When are we going to be smart enough to understand that's our children we are putting behind the wheel when we get their first car or they get their learner's permit and so on and so forth make it a law they cannot start driving unless their car is Bluetooth enabled that it could handle the incoming messages and everything and they don't have to take their eyes off the road for a split second because the same way it takes a split second to get pregnant it takes a split second to take away that life so please you guys make all these laws and all these rules make that an official law you're not able to drive at all until your car is Bluetooth enabled and that's the only way that you get to drive because if you leave it on the phone and you take your eyes off the road you're gone I don't care how many commercials you have they're not going to listen until it becomes a law how many more kids are we going to bury how many more families are going to cry we have smartphones so make smart decisions don't expect your child to be the one to do the smart decision they have to have some kind of Bluetooth device in their vehicle that listens to the messages and reads it out my phone every time a message comes in it tells me who's it from and what it says if it's an emergency they can pull over if not make it a rule you cannot get a cell phone until your first four years of driving by yourself and not getting into an accident you have to come home to be able to message anyone and watch how fast the cemeteries start being less filled with our children passed a message forward and God we trust one land and one nation under God God gave us our children let's not send them back in a rush delivery because of a stupid driving accident
