Actually David describes how hard it was for his 'poor mother to have to listen to' and yes, another comment or proclaimed that it is a metaphor regarding society and the powers that be... That is how David sums it up 😉

It's in 4/4 you just have to count the "and" like 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and. the guitar riffs plays off the syncopation of the "and". thats what gives it that swager.

I highly recommend Stupefy by these guys. Scared people to death in 2000, even me until I found out it was an anti-racism song. That one, or A Welcome Burden. The bridge of DWTS may be literal, but also has a subliminal meaning. The song is about how you're not supposed to color outside Society's lines. The "mommy" he's referring to is what they call the Mother Culture. The offspring is being punished for being different, "I'll be a good boy". Finally, he can't take it anymore, and resorts to homicidal means. Great reaction, man. That Hot Pocket comment had me cracking up. Lol

@@mortisrat Didn't realize you'd spoken with the band recently. oh... you haven't? you got that shit off Wiki? well, by all means, Wiki and the media must be the next best thing (especially if we're talking 'bout the 'mother' of society needing a smackdown). you can ruminate on whatever figurative or latent meaning makes the song more palatable for ya. doesn't make my statement, or the raging statement in the song, any less accurate. PS: in case you miss the point, they do not EVER say 'it isn't about an abusive mother'. indeed, one would have to be completely stupified to think "it isn't" (as you say). all ya have to do is listen to the unedited song.

@@larrysquires5321 They have stated in an interview that this song is about being in a sense outcasts of society and the mother part is a metaphor. Many fans have came up and told them how that part with the mother reminded them of their past with their own mother and helped some of them. They aren't flat out denying it and letting people decide how they want to view the song, but when they made the song it was about society (mother).

Draiman says the screamed psychodramas in metal hits like "Down With The Sickness" (sample line: "No, Mommy, don't do it again! I'll be a good boy! I promise! Don't hit me!") are merely inspired by personal history, not a literal journal of his own tortured upbringing. "I'm really talking about the conflict between the mother culture of society, who's beating down the child yearning for independence and individuality, and the submission of the child." That's a quote from an interview with David himself
