So here's the thing about Myles, he has a phenomenal upper register and he has a strong vocal instrument. His voice is a like a laser and will cut through powerfully. Yeah David kills it absolutely, no doubt about that. And so does Myles Kennedy. Myles did sound off pitch all the time, not only in the beginning as you pointed out. And that's because that's what he EXACTLY wanted to do! He was always few steps higher than David except for some parts like 12:39, (which is the lowest note sung in this performance) where he lets David to scream those high notes. Myles is HARMONIZING, he's not doing the lead vocals, that's why he's not singing the original melody and going up and down. And this is not the only performance of this song with Myles. If you watch other ones you can see that Myles still sings this same off-pitched melody. It's his own melody which he thinks that it suits for harmonizing. It's little bit disappointing that Maggie complaining it in this way. I've watched few other reactions of this performance by some vocal coaches and none of them complained like this, but they talked about how great Myles' harmonies were.

I think you nailed it in the analysis - this song was originally a duet, then made into a solo song by David. He doesn't adapt his part at all here to accommodate a second vocalist, he just has Myles find a harmony. Respectfully agree to disagree and I like to explain why I do so. At first "hallow darkness...talk to you again" Myles keeps a low second on pitch and in the second "because the vision... while I was sleeping" Myles uses an isotonic second on pitch, and maybe this is what you might thought it was off but it wasn't. Something very clever and not "struggling" to keep-up, is that Myles chose to keep his second vocals a hair behind David's first allowing both voices to be very clear and distinct while the harmony is blending very nicely. In my opinion a very powerful duet and an amazing performance from both. Anyhow this is just my opinion.

I generally love your analysis and reactions, but you missed the mark on this one. The disturbed version of this song is in F# minor. The early portion of the song where you began critiquing on Miles goes as follows: (Vocal line): Because a vision softly creeping (Miles): Sings a steady A3 throughout the whole vocal phrase/line (David): Sings a melody of A2 (octave) C#3 (minor 6th) E3(perfect 4th) F#(minor 3rd) E3 (perfect 4th) All notes sung by both singers are within F# minor scale and form some clever intervals. Less trained ears prefer mostly perfect 5ths, unison, or octave intervals for harmonies as those are the most consonant and audibly pleasing/peaceful. This clearly is a bit more sophisticated than that, although fairly easy to execute when one singer is just holding a fixed note with slight inflections here and there. If you imagine Miles voice in that specific part as an accompanying instrument like a guitar just holding a note/chord it might be easier to palate. I suspect your ear was expecting the same harmonies as the original Simon and Garfunkel version, but that's not the case here. Because it wasn't what you were expecting, it sounded strange or off, but in reality it was just a different take but was still musically correct. I'm going to assume based on your credentials and singing skill level that you know scales and basic music theory and I'll give you the benefit of the doubt here like you did Miles, but I'd highly suggest listening to some of Miles other work to allow him to redeem himself as he's an extremely talented singer with insane range and a very crisp clear piercing voice that's quite smooth for rock. I'll do the same for you and check out some of your other videos. Your reaction to AC/DC was heart warming! Love to see the younger up and coming talents appreciate older music!

I think that Disturbed created one of the most masterful arrangements of a cover that was perfectly suited for the singer's voice that is on par with other famous covers that outshone the original such as Whitney and "I Will Always Love You" and perhaps some of Elvis's covers. I'm disappointed that David doesn't sing more of this type of music because I am not a big fan of the style normally sung by Disturbed. Unfortunately, in this particular performance making it, a duet didn't enhance the sound and actually detracted from it. To be fair to Myles, I think this would have been the case with almost anyone.

When I first watched this with you on Twitch, it was my first time watching it too since I only saw the music video and from Conan Live. From 2:45 to 3:29 I was laughing so hard I forgot to breathe when you noticed Myles being off the harmony, because I heard the same thing you heard and even I didn't get it. Your response was hilarious because after I finished laughing I thought "OMG SHE IS BRUTALITY HONEST AND I LOVE IT!". David Draiman however can still sing exactly how it was recorded in the studio.

There was nothing wrong with that harmony Myles did, I didn't hear any questionable notes. He might have chose a different harmony than the original. It did sound like at one point he was singing in his guard but that was it. The notes sounded fine.

interesting... have you ever considered you may be as tone deaf as Myles is?

@@martymcpeak4748 It's not trolling if it's true, Myles did not start off well in the low voice compared to David Draiman. When he hits the high note that's when he did well.

@@crymsonvega4854 I knew there was a reason I unsubbed from this channel. Funny thing Elizabeth from the Charasmatic Voice never mentioned Myles being tone deaf or out of key.

Finally the right version. Although Henk Poort an opera sings a version of this one to honor Floor Jansen.

Framerate bad, analysis bad. Usually like your reactions but this is both bad quality in terms of video and breakdown.

How are you an opera singer if you don't even hear the difference between the tembres? It's the same harmony, you just can't get the difference between their tembres.
