If all (at least adult players) have stopped playing and paying for even a month this would have been a such a win for us. It happened to my fav MMO WoW, everyone left to play FFXIV coz we were so tired of eating whatever disgusting, unfinished content they give us. The best part ab it is that, they have listened almost immediately when they lost so many of us. Its funny how the only way of forcing studios like these is to stop paying for their bullshit. It makes me so sad to think we are at this point in the world.

I will be joining in on this boycott the same way I did when they messed up the updated riding arena surface for the dressage player base of the community. It's a real shame that this game has gotten to this point where the players are forced to organise boycotts like these just so that the "higher-ups" and investors of SSE's attention is grabbed to initiate change, but I believe we can do it! We have done it before, so I can't see why we wouldn't be able to do it again. The dressage arena boycott saw quite quick results, taking roughly a month with several changes being made until the vast majority of players were satisfied. Hopefully this time around we will see changes being made alongside more honest and frequent communication between the team and the players. 🤞

This time sums up why I can't stand the community of that game... Tired players are finally fed up of years of expensive bullsh*t & other excuses and confront the team? They are "bullying" them. But when a whole company lie, manipulate kids and borderline gaslight their clients? Then we should be "more grateful". I'm pretty sure these keyboard warriors in their shining armor don't realise that we don't like having to protest constantly, we'd prefer to be able to enjoy a quality content and peacefully interact with a listening team. Sadly it's not the case.

First of all, I’m really happy that people are boycotting and expressing their opinions when it comes to how SSO is treating their players. I play FFXIV have the privilege where my game studios never really had a big problem when it comes to players boycotting because of design or monetization choices. I feel like a lot of adult players who play star stable should probably start looking for other MMORPGs, other horse games or other online games to play with other people. For me at least, I feel like SSO has always had a monetization issue. There’s just no reason why in 2023 a horse game where it’s gameplay” is focused on Horses should have ALL Horses be up for micro transactions. It makes no sense to me. It would be like in FFXIV that all weapons are only purchasable with micro transactions and you’re stuck with your starter gear the entire time and you can’t Change classes. Or if in Genshin you only get traveler and you can’t change their element at all. That’s what your stuck with! I don’t understand how this is how this game is anyway ethical compared to any other MMORPG out there. I’m not saying that star sable has to be exactly like FFXIV, that’s not what I’m saying at all. I’m saying that star sable should really start to look at other games and how what they’re doing with their players and how they are players making their players happy. I feel like SSO for so long has been coasting on the fact that it’s the only Open world horse game that’s decent out there and now that there’s options like tales of rain ravine or there’s options for open world games like Genshin Impact or just better MMORPG out there like World of Warcraft and Final Fantasy 14, with everyone in that in those games tend be a lot happier with their developers. I feel that people are going to be quite upset and might just stop playing. Due to the fact of what SSO has done over the years for me I think I’m just going to stop playing. I haven’t been happy with SSO for a long time. I wanna still have updates and keep up with the community but I think I’m just gonna stop playing and I don’t have lifetime so it’s really easy for me to stop playing, women, children and everyone in this game deserves a whole lot better and I hope one day passes and SSO gets its act together or hope one day everyone from the community find a better horse game that will treat their players right. if anyone wants to join the final fantasy 14 community, we welcome you open arms not the same thing but the free trials up to level 70 so you get more bang for your buck and it’s unlimited free trial to so there’s no time limit. Again, I really hope that this game improves and people get to live out their horse fantasies because I really would hate if any of my favorite games shut down I would not wish on that anyone else. It’s just incredibly disappointing to me as someone who is starting to get back into the game and trying to recapture their childhood Sorry this comment is super long, it’s actually really upsetting videos like yours got me back into SSO and now I’m going. :((

Would not playing the game, like completely avoiding SSO/SSE in general, affect SSE is anyway? Putting it better: Does playing SSO affect SSE?
@huntermoonhearth

Yes. Players being on means the company has consumers, they have about 25k daily players log in apparently, if less people showed up it would be a bit of a cause of concern because without players there is no reason to keep the servers up (not saying SSO would shut down) it just means they would need to work harder on bringing us back and that would start with listening to us.

Honestly, I respectfully disagree. When the Hollow Woods update came out, I thought the progression was generously low, but I do come from games that involve way more grinding. It made sense to me when they increased the costs to progress because it's meant to be something you gather over time, not earn all at once. If people hadn't gotten used to the low start prices, I doubt as many people would have been upset. It would have seemed normal. It'd get boring fast if it were finished too quick and the developers know this, but the problem is not all developers are gamers, so it seems they didn't know how to gauge this. They didn't want the new thing they worked hard to develop to barely last because the point was to provide players with something to do. With the winter magic update, it feels like they overcompensated, but then adjusted thanks to feedback, which they clearly listened to because they did something about it. As far as listening goes, they're definitely listening, but they're also considering things the public may not be aware of. A boycott is effective when a company's being greedy and refuses to listen. If that company is already listening and trying, defunding them could just shoot ourselves in the foot. Without funds, they might have to consider layoffs and with people losing their honest jobs, they may become understaffed and resort to even cheaper updates. Do we really want to do that while there are plenty of signs they may be genuinely trying but don't know better? They may be reading the feedback but may not be understanding certain things about it that only come with experience, like knowing what's grindy and what's fair. They get mixed feedback, so it can make things confusing. They gave us an event in the summer around Starshine Ranch to try something new and learn from feedback. One thing they pointed out was that they were surprised that so many players responded well to the danger element (beasts like bears, wolves, or a bull), which they predicted would annoy players, but no, even though it was frustrating getting caught for some, it made the place far more interesting and fun. Perhaps the things players find grindy was something they assumed would be fun or satisfying, not come off like a chore. They introduced new things to Hollow Woods and the winter event I think has had more this year than ever before. You mentioned the player character update feeling unfinished. Yes, they are adding more to it, but they released it for valuable feedback and they mentioned this. We don't need to complain to get them to finish it. It was already on their mind, but they wanted our input before continuing while also releasing during a time when it wouldn't get bunched up with holidays/events and overshadowed. This isn't a bad thing they did. It's less professional, but it shows they take our input seriously because they want to work with us. I mean, how many other games do that? Heck, how many MMO games that require subscriptions have a "lifetime" option that's cheaper than $120 ($10 a month x 12 to equal only a year) that even allows you to explore newly added areas and quests without locking all that stuff behind another paywall called DLC, and ontop of that you get 100SC every weej instead of only granting you unlimited access? The day they remove lifetime membership or limit how OP it is would be the day I'd truly be concerned for Star Stable as a company. I know people are nostalgic for old SSO, but the problem with nostalgia is that people can long for "the good old days" without the quality of those days necessarily being good or comparable to present day. It can be a simple acquired taste that feels familiar and brings back memories, but each person's memories are unique, which complicates things. I know and I get it. Personally, I still go back to playing old Playstation 1 games from when I was a kid. The graphics, controls, and and quality are terrible, yet I prefer them over owning a PS5. If you really compare SSO now to the way the game was back then, well, when was it ever perfect and that professional? The animations were choppy and simple for quests and most happened in our imaginations without much to visualize. (I mean, have you seen Jasper dance?) They're still giving us free Star Rider codes and free stable care. How do we know for sure they weren't planning on giving us a 300SC code for New Year's all along, and that people didn't complain too early? With the addition of the new player area, the Hollow Woods update, a Yeti model I've been waiting to see since before the Kallters left, a monstrous project known as snow being added to all of Jorvik, Camp Western being added to test the waters where they literally gave us a popup questionnaire to submit feedback if we wanted to at the end, more storyline quests being introduced along with Devil's Gap plus other areas becoming explorable, and ontop of that, more freebies, sales, and interesting little things being sprinkled throughout the game here and there such as the singing penguins and other interactable things, I just don't feel the need to boycott Star Stable. It seems not everyone was happy with the Black Friday sale, but I sure was. Got a few horses I'd been eyeing for a long time but could never afford until now. As far as I'm aware, Star Stable is doing fairly well and could use improvements, but it's not bad enough to boycott in my opinion, especially after these recent updates. They are a business, so they need to make certain decisions to keep the game alive, but if I compare Star Stable to other game companies I've more recently played games from or my teachers used to work for, Star Stable is one of the friendlier, respectful, open-minded, generous companies that don't abuse their employees. What happened when Star Stable realized their game was outdated by having Disco in Fort Pinta? They looked for a popular person their target audience looked up to music-wise and found Jojo, unaware of the problems that soon followed. When they realized she was inappropriate for a horse game, they removed her while keeping the hairstyles for those who liked them and found other musical talent and damn, they hit the nail on the head! If the game's not worth your time or money, don't invest in it. I like what I'm seeing and we got our 300SC, so I'm going to keep enjoying the game as many others are. People have always complained about the way Star Stable's been since the day I joined years ago, back when the starter horse was a G1 model and we couldn't even jump without Star Rider. The chat filter was awful. The game often glitched and things like reins or hair stretched into the sky. Controls were clunky. I the only things I miss are the feelings of these days and some old models, but I wouldn't trade today's stuff for what we had back then. There are so many more players now and that means more voices to be heard. I'm great at following orders, working with a team, and planning strategic things. If Star Stable ever does something truly horrible, of course I'll join a boycott. Even though I'm not joining you now, it doesn't mean I'm against you. I just believe in a different solution. (Funding, constructive criticism among communication, and patience.) After all, isn't the end goal a better game for all of us to enjoy?
