Racism, like sexism, and other ISMs in western civilization TENDS to be SUBTLE. That’s how Miles should be written. Someone that sees the subtle-ness that exists and will NEVER disappear. He just has to rise above thinking he can do away with it and try to esteem the alternative. Like a Jackie Robinson. Most discrimination isn’t someone calling you N… It’s that SAME person moving away from you when you walk a few feet toward them.

The guy did not give any specifics though and was being very general. It would have been helpful if he gave a specific example because what he might have found too political others may have not. It is okay to be black or be of some black ancestry not to like the writing of a particular black writer (it is not some type of requirement).

I wish I knew more about the comic to know if dude was being sensitive or intolerant.

I’m reading Cody Ziglars Miles run and dude is way off base. There’s no political views being thrown around, you can tell it’s written by a black guy though by the dialogue and how miles and the other black characters speak. I guess that’s too much for the guy.

@@epcarter6 i saw the stream and he brought up a moment where Miles says its good to be home. If that's all there is to remind us of Miles' background I couldn't validate the criticism.

Yeah, for what it’s worth I’m not caught up on the book to say one way or the other, but I wanted to use those comments as a springboard to talk about something that’s important to the discussion about the industry. The audience that exists for comics isn’t necessarily racially diverse and the correlation between character/creator race and sales. It’s a tough situation.

@@TheComicsPals Yeah it makes me sad when I hear people make comments like that. Because being black and a comic book fan for years I’ve had to read the majority white characters and never complained or minded. Then you have people like that commenter who can’t take it when a POC writer comes along and adds maybe a different perspective. Don’t wanna be to long winded, appreciate you guys love the channel.

It’s frustrating for sure. I appreciated the honesty though and the space it created to have that conversation. And hey, that person stuck around and is a listener so they’re clearly trying and aren’t closed off to different views. There is hope.

I’ve red a bit of Miles comics. He isn’t very developed as his own character cuz he gets a new power up every week. Politics don’t help with it either. I’m Caribbean btw

When you say politics in this context what exactly are you referring to?
