I love the way you showed it visually. So clear for students to see. Flipping a fraction is great, but it doesn't show them the mechanics. :)

what if the number is like up to thousands, would you still use a model?

Smaller numbers have to be used to gain a better conceptual understanding. Then once you understand the concept, you can apply the algorithm (step-by-step procedure) to larger values.

I love this video and your ease of explaining the concept. I teach dividing fractions this way as well, but I've been looking for a video to show students as well. What I've been looking for is a video - short of creating one myself - that shows how to divide fractions when the denominators are relatively prime, like 1/3 ÷ 1/5. If you know of one or if you want to make one, let me know! (=

Hello Mr. Hays I work at Fresno County Superintendent of Schools and am working alongside Kern County to build the 6th grade math curriculum that we are pushing out through Canvas and also some teachers are pushing out to students via google classroom. I would like to get your written permission to use your videos. Is there a way I can get you my email without making it public here on the comments? Thanks!

Hi Meagan, I'm not sure how to send it privately, but you are more than welcome to use any of the videos I have created. Hope they help! Take care, Tim
