Its worse here, our economy is like a flailing fish, fighting for its life. The normal state of the U.S. economy is actually very bad. Because of this it goes into convulsive spasms fighting to grow any way it can out of desperation. Tricks, gimmicks, rule changes try to stimulate the economy and prevent it from falling but they only bring temporary relief to people since, when you factor in inflation we are declining.

Inflation is gradually going to become part of us and due to that fact any money you keep in cash or in a low-interest account declines in value each year. That's a very one sided view. Reducing the rates ( even slightly ) will free up capital for new investments which as you can see our economy is starting to need. Inflation has been tamped way down and now it's time to inject some life back into growth. Who cares what share prices do or what investors think/do what matters is that companies need an influx of capital to grow again. Mortgage rates need to come down and income needs to go up faster than inflation for a couple years to catch us up.
@1lllllllll1

@@genxtech5584you seem to be ignoring the fact that capital infusion/QE is going to instantly cause inflation, and your wage cycle ends up being meaningless. Unless you have actual nominally non indexed assets, a rate drop will cause pain medium term.

@@donkeysaurusrex7881 What are you talking about mate. The year-over-year inflation for July was $2.9%. The month over month inflation was 0%. I believe for the second month in a row. Given the fed's Target, you would expect a month over month inflation rate of about 0.2. Economic data will always lag rate decisions because it takes time for companies to change their patterns based on the capital available. Which mean the FED needs to start lowering rates before we get into a recession to prevent it. Not after. I think the FED missed the mark this last month and should have dropped a quarter point. Time will tell if it costs us a recession or not

I know no one asked but my two cents is that once you've been investing for a year or two you can smell a dividend cut coming from a mile away. There is not one company that cut their dividend in the last 3 years that I didn't expect that they were going to cut their dividend.
@polarbearoughey

Yup, once that topline revenue starts to dip for a year or so, it's just a matter of time. Sometimes holding through a dividend cut can be worthwhile if you have the time. I think this will be the case with NLY and MMM, but most of the time neither the share price nor the dividend ever recover.
