Teachers are so determined to not only teach the steps required to solve the problem, but also make sure the kids have a conceptual understanding of WHY those steps lead to the solution. That's great wayyyy later on. But at this level, all that does is cause massive confusion and uncertainty. Not to mention, it really isn't necessary. With these incredibly basic concepts of math, in a few years once they are on to the hard stuff, the conceptual grasp on these basics will be automatic.

Reviewing algebra and pre-algebra (fractions still give me a hard time) for my college math assesment..and I have to say I stuggled quite a bit in high school...I got very lucky with teachers who would give alot of second chances to boost up your grade for passing. But in the end I still never really understood a good 50% of what the hell I was doing. But after watching even just one video on a portion I was stuggling on I got it, seriously..what the hell have my teachers been doing?? years of struggle and now im getting it after a series of 10+ minute videos? ANYWAYS, I just wanted to say thanks, you really have changed alot for me for the better.

I need to see more Pie manipulatives. Multiplying by the reciprocal is easy. The example Khan used (only one) for the pie manipulatives was fairly easy. How about showing a whole lesson of why this works, with more difficult examples. Just like a textbook, do one easy example, and we are suppose to get the idea for all the hard ones!
