This is a super video. Especially for a novice. We've lived in our current home for 6 years and started taking an interest in easy landscape care and design. I know the homeowners before didn't do much to anything already planted. Last year, I noticed the center of it was getting bare. I just had core aeration and overseeding done in the lawn and would prefer to hold off transplanting until next year. I'm excited to see how transplanting into containers work out. I'll be trying to catch your videos. Thank you, Sue

Sounds like a great plan, taking it slow and thinking things through is an excellent way to go about it. I call it 'slow gardening'. 🙃

Thank you Pam! Another great video once again! This is my first time posting so please bear with me. I enjoy gardeners that keep things simple and don't get overly fancy. As long as the video is clear and I understand the directions, you will always have a dedicated subscriber! Most of gardens i see on youtube are too lavish (not to mention expensive) for my taste. Maybe some gardeners can afford the new cultivars , or buy the hottest new trending plant, but I cannot. I enjoy the propagating aspect you provide in your videos. I admire fellow gardeners that go the extra step to pass on the knowledge they have obtained throughout life for others to learn. I have a very shady yard that I am slowly clearing of poison ivy, English ivy, and Virginia creeper. It's a work in progress. It doesn't get enough sun to grow the colorful blooms that I love looking at, so it's nice to peek into someone else's garden such as yours that is so beautiful. To me, a garden is very personal space created (by them) for them enjoy, so thank you for sharing yours with me.

Thank you, Ron. I hear you on the elaborate garden videos that seem more of a sales pitch than a garden tutorial. I have been a budget gardener from the beginning, I was on the tightest of budgets when I began my first garden. I learned so much from my grandparents and how they gardened. They never bought bagged soil, fertilizers and or expensive plants. They traded cuttings, seeds and starts with friends and neighbors. I learned a beautiful, thriving garden does not mean spending lots of $$$ and that is what I try to share.

I enjoyed this comment. I have a shade garden and it was my favorite…..until we adopted a dog 😂 . My favorite were bleeding hearts ( white ones and pink ones ). And astilbes! Astilbe! Astilbe! Beautiful floating whisks of fluff in pink , lavender , and white ( false goats beard) . I have a couple pink ones left. Luckily that were also in another area , and I’ve begun propagating them after 20 years. $14 for a root stock at the time seemed so lavish ! Since then , I’ve learned to propagate everything , plant seeds , and to trade with family, neighbors, and friends. Of course the occasional clearance at Home Depot is hard to resist if a rare expensive / inexpensive find . Recently, I bought my first Lenten rose on clearance. I just could never justify that expense without a steep discount. I always cherish the plants that are dying on shelves in the clearance aisles! I like to do the work. I wanted to ask - What do you grow in summer for your shade garden ? What are your favorites ? So many are happy in spring shade , but summer shade growers are still empty in my own garden. My dog is old now and doesn’t make his way to the shade garden anymore. I’m beginning to think of fillers . A good garden always takes time . I’m not a fan of neighbors hiring landscapers to put in the same plants in neat little rows that every neighbor has. I love a wild , but tidy cottage garden . I’m beginning now to plant some natives like ..trilliums and bee balm. With the manicured gardens , our area has lost much of its pollinator diversity. It had also lost alot of its character. I’ve learned so much over the years from my older neighbors who were more than willing to share tips . Who needs advice anymore when the instructions come with the pot and landscapers to plant them ? 😂 I do see your point often about who can purchase the latest hybrid. There’s no imagination or personal expression in it if you ask me 💐 I moved my irises today with help from this video. I was so worried after losing my great grandfather’s irises to a soaker hose after many years in the same spot happy. I made a fatal and irreversible mistake . Sometimes I do daydream about driving a hundred miles and offering cash for just one iris belonging to my great grandfather’s old property. I’d fear the worst disappointment would be to see them all gone and replaced with New Guinea impatiens . There’s always hope. .. if im ever 50 miles in the vicinity to drive by in spring .

@@danih7577 I have very little shade to play with so I am not sure how much help I can be but I am loving different hostas that look so elegant in that space. As a ground cover the lamium I have just shines, it has a white flower and I bought it at a nursery for very little $$$. I have a couple bargain rack repeat blooming hydrangeas in containers there that have been providing a pop of color but they sit behind a bench that I have there also and are partially obscured so I am thinking of moving them.

Thank you Pam for showing a nice calm nothing sped up tutorial 🙂 I only have light purple bearded Irises now but I dropped a few coins on new ones coming through the mail shortly. "I Pink I Can" is the one I'm most looking forward to. After seeing the tour through yours I had to start a collection. 😉 #enabler 🤣 #ItsPamsFault

I’m new to iris gardening having just planted some tall bearded reblooming irises last year. It would be helpful to learn more about what is meant by reblooming because I haven’t seen any of my rebloomers rebloom. Their first blooms are lovely though. Anyway, of them, Champagne Elegance is my favorite because of its beauty and fragrance. But I’m sure you know of even better varieties since my experience with irises is so limited.😃

The reblooming Iris put more blooms in Fall but not always. It depends on your growing season and I have had some that will rebloom but not every year. I rarely buy an Iris mere based on the chance it can rebloom. It is a thrill if it does happen. Most Iris gardens will note if it is a rebloomer but usually give the warning about the growing season being a factor. I have Champagne Elegance and I love it. I did not notice it having a scent, I will be sure and check next Spring! Thank you for letting me know.

I am still trying to find the name of that one, I just bought it 3 years ago so I should have it in my file. I do know that I bought that one from Superstition Iris gardens.

If I put an iris in a pot will it freeze over the winter? We get really cold winters in Manitoba Canada
@FlowerPatchFarmhouse

Iris are hardy in zones 3 - 10. Find your growing zone and then calculate from there. If it gets colder you can keep the pot inside an unheated garage or bury in the ground to insulate it better.

Hi Pam: i dug up iris bulbs, and I put them in a cardboard box, how long can they stay out of dirt? I was planning to replant them in the Spring. Please advise.

I don't understand why you haven't planted them yet, but then you don't say. They are not meant to be stored outside of the ground like other bulbs so it is best if you plant them out in the garden or in pots. I am supposing you are talking about Bearded Iris and not Dutch Iris.
