For anyone curious about the true history of the lake it will be under this.. In 1912, two black men in oscarville,ga were accused of rape of two white women, found guilty, got the death penalty and were executed all in one day. After this a group of white men came into town and massacred/burnt down the population of oscarville ga. (Intense I know, but this is what your ancestors did people.) ( im not two sure of this next part but I assume they flooded it and it became part of Dunlap dam.) After this they flooded the town of oscarville. As you probably know, Lake Lanier came about in 1956 after they drove out and flooded ANOTHER city, this city including 700 residents( mostly black ) and a cemetery of about 20-50 bodies. The lake is now haunted by 2 cities and a cemetery and people still choose to live on it despite it racist and down right horrible history.

I know it has a horrible history but I think the people that live on and around it should make sure the lakes history and the people who lost their life is talked about and honored. I think it would be the best way to keep their memory and history going through generations. I have been to lake Lanier and felt like I needed to say a prayer for the people who lost their lives and land due to it being built. My heart and soul hurt for them. That being said, after I honored them in my own way and as I spoke of them, my uneasy feelings near the lake disappeared. I still wouldn't jump in and swim though bc I still felt sad for the lake. I'm 1/4 native American so my ancestors lost their lives and had alot of land stolen from them. I understand the sadness and anger felt by the people that were living there and lost everything.. I know their kinfolk that is alive still feel that.
