Mind Blown! What a wreck!
At 565ft long the MS Zenobia is absolutely enormous and its clear why she is listed as one of the Top Ten wreck dives in the world.
The MS Zenobia sank on he maiden voyage on 7th June 1980. She was sailing from Malmo in Sweden to Tartous in Syria when she suffered a ballast malfunction. The computerised pumping system was pumping too much water into the ballast tanks which caused the ship to list.
With the problem getting increasingly worse the Zenobia was towed out of Larnaca harbour to prevent her from becoming an obstruction. At around 02:30hrs she finally capsized and sank 1.5km from the shore and in 42m of water. Around £200m worth of cargo also went down with her and still lies within the wreck. There are also a number of conspiracy theories as to why the Zenobia sank including arms smuggling!
Lying on her port side, the starboard side of the ship is at just 16m making it accessible to recreational divers. The ship is teeming with life. Large Grouper, Barracuda, Lionfish and even Turtles can be seen.
