Thanks. That should also work. Don't forget to put in an overflow hole to keep the water from pooling up too high.

A good way to drill holes in plastic is to drill in reverse. It makes a nicer hole, it doesn't spin the bucket because the teeth aren't biting into it and the plastic you drilled out comes off of the holes saw much easier. Often it just falls off. If you plan on drilling multiple holes, it saves time to drill all of the pilot holes first. Then you won't have to switch bits out for each one

I didn't have access to a a hole saw so I traced a circle around the net pot and cut the hole with a jig saw.

Yes sir. I grow in ground in raised beds and in containers and buckets. I might try your bottom fill method. One thing I do different is i make a 4 inch reservoir by using any diameter pvc pipe and make 4 or more 4 inch long pieces and use them as legs between the 2 buckets then put my overflow hole at 3 inches. Other times I use 1 bucket and 4 in drainage pipe on the bottom. Learned that from "gardening with Leon" KZitem channel.

I have done some like that also. I have not made the video yet. It is coming soon.

@@farmfreshrewind I'm thinking of combining the bottom fill your using or at least connect all the top fill pipes in line and fill them from a 55 gallon barrel. Then if im mixing in fertilizer i can mix it all together at once. I think it will be so much better than dragging a hose around. Last year I had at least 60 containers and buckets going. Have a good growing season I'll be looking in I'm always trying to learn techniques that I can steal or borrow lol.

There are different products out there to convert five gallon buckets into SIPs. They basically have the floor with the perforations and the cup as one piece. That way you only need to buy one bucket per SIP. I've seen a version that even comes with a float for water level checking. And they seem to be much cheaper than new buckets. Of course if you already have the buckets DIY is the best way to go. Reusing stuff is great for the environment and your checkbook. Either way thank you fro the informative video!!

I've read that cotton rots quickly in water. Probably best to use nylon, polyester or microfiber cloth.
