I miss the part where you screwed the windows in at all.

Tip: Don't caulk over the weep holes! Wind-driven rain flooded part of my bedroom due to that.

No, you only have to bring up to code if its a substantial remodel in most places.

Did you just caulk over the weep holes? 😮

What are weep holes? 🤔

The little holes at the bottom of the window that allow rain water to drip out and not collect and cause damage and moisture issues.

Pretty sure the window is upside down if you actually needed to use it as an egress to escape fire … and it was not secured, the weeping holes were caulked over and if it is a bedroom, they have to be enlarged to current code. 😬

Weeping holes are visible even after applying the caulk

What if you want to put a smaller window in a spot where you have a big window ?

I am not a builder or contractor. When you’re doing a remodeling project, aren’t you supposed to follow current building codes? If your only egress from the basement is a single set of stairs, then aren’t you required to create a secondary egress window well? Note - I don’t know the layout of your project, and you might already have a secondary egress point on another wall, so this might be a moot point.

Don’t you only need a second egress if someone is living in the basement or running a business (like a daycare or something)?

@@somethingawesome1462 I checked into the building code for egress windows and doors. Egress windows (or doors) are required in every habitable space. A habitable space is space in a building for living, sleeping, eating or cooking. This include a bedroom, living room, lounge room, music room, television room, kitchen, dining room, sewing room, study, playroom, family room, home theatre, finished attic used for sleeping, playroom, or office, and an enclosed sunroom. Bathrooms, toilets, hallways, storage areas, closets, or utility rooms and similar areas are not considered habitable spaces. Any room used for sleeping purposes will require its own egress window. Remodeler: if you have an existing home and you add a sleeping room, or finish a separate living space in the basement, the code requires that you install an egress window to serve these spaces. Without a means of egress, these rooms can represent a dangerous fire trap if you do not have a quick and easy to operate emergency egress escape window. If you have a basement that has a bedroom, recreation room, den, family room, media room, office, or home gym, all of these rooms are required to have a means of egress.
