The earliest illustrations were hand applied to individual products. Cavemans would draw pictures on walls, later baskets and clothing further more. However no two illustrations were looka like since each was drawn separately and directly to the product.
Long before man was striving to find a method for reproducing pictures, He was interested in printing a design in a repeated pattern on clothing and other possessions.
Thus we find that ancient chinese, assyrians and egyptians began experimenting with block printing. The art soon spread to japan where wood was exclusively used as medium and highly specialised skill resulted.
In india we find diverse rang of prints like Bagru print , Sanganeri printing, Kalamkari block printing, Ajrakh printing, and Dabu printing
