Groovy project. Allthread is just fine. Just weld a nut (instead of locktight) to one end and you can have a bolt any darn length you want. Trailers vibrate so use lock washers and locknuts at the other end.

As expensive as bolts are now (especially long ones) that’s all I’ve been doing here lately is making my own.

I did almost this same thing with the exact same trailer some years ago. It was to haul a single, 16 foot, square back, sporting canoe with battery and trolling motor. I extended the tongue and installed mounts for boat bunks. I took every precaution to keep everything straight and square, and it was... but 6 months later, and for no apparent reason, the entire trailer had twisted and looked terrible. I kept it around a few more years and gave it to a friend.

Oh no! I’m sorry to hear that. Luckily everything is still where I put it. I have a few thousand miles on it now and it’s holding up great.

hahaha that has totally happened to me in the past. I'll be watching something irrelevant to anything i'd ever do someone walks in and ask oh your learning about ... and i'm like sometimes it's just better when questions aren't asked.

Hi, I bought that same trailer but from a different company. Inspect the suspension regularly because i actually had that axle come off going down the highway. The first time the leaf spring hanger wore out and broke in half and the second time the leaf spring itself broke off where the bolt goes through the spring and hanger. I made heavier spring hangers out of quarter inch thick steel and I have half inch chain about 16 inches long bolted from the frame to the axle to keep it from coming out from under the trailer again. I also upgraded to heaver leaf springs. I haven't had any trouble since. But i make it a habit to inspect it twice a year.

That’s awesome you were able to take care of the leaf spring issue. I haven’t had any problems yet but haven’t put but maybe a few thousand miles on it. I do know that the locknuts the trailer came with weren’t the best that’s why I opted for a lot of blue loctite haha they use the same bolts on a lot of other things they sell and I don’t remember exactly what I had an issue with in the past just remember that those locking nuts were coming loose and I had to disassemble it and put loctite on everything.

You're going to love it. This thing pulls great, and is hardly bouncy. I've pulled actual boat trailers in the past and they didn't ride near as smooth as this thing does.

Is the pvc pipe in the boat just for more rod holders? Or is it a bilge system or could that also work as mounting for a casting deck ?
@reallifetested2605
Жыл бұрын
It's ironic that you ask this because I was going to do a video on these soon. They're pretty much rod holders that I didn't have to actually screw to the boat. I also use them as something to tie my life jackets, fishing rods, trolling motor wire etc. to.

Could I just tie the boat to the trailer and and then untie it when I get to the boat ramp and slide in the water?
@reallifetested2605

I don’t see why not. I’d definitely run some straps across it in the back, middle, and front though because it doesn’t have bunks to hold it in place.

I don't see why it wouldn't. The main thing to look out for is your weight. As long as you don't go over the weight rating of the axle, wheels / coupler you should be just fine.

I boughr one these Harbour Freight trailers and you know the old saying you get what you pay for. The main problem is that it is low grade steel and it rusts really fast. The solution is to repaint it oil based paint. Prime and paint maybe ywo coats.
@reallifetested2605

I haven’t had any issues with rusting. But as you saw I did put a thick layer of primer and 2 layers of oil based enamel. Maybe that will make the little trailer last a while. So far it still looks new.
