Shea butter isn't a little bit thicker than coconut oil, it's A LOT thicker. The reason yours is so soft, and white is because it is refined. Unrefined Shea butter (usually ivory or yellow in color) is very hard and usually needs to melted over a double boiler then refrigerated before it can be whipped up.

I found some 100% pure unrefined shea butter at tj max and it is in fact yellow in color. I'm melting the shea butter with a double boiler method right now. Im putting into a Mason jar (disinfected) since the plastic tub they came in would warm with the heat.

Something to note for future reference: Vitamin Oil is not a preservative. It will not prevent mold, yeast and other bacteria. It is an antioxidant, which means it will prevent the oils for going rancid and it is added after whipping (cool down phase) along with the essential oils because they are heat sensitive.
@gamegang6275

Thanks your comment was very helpful. What would you recommend to prevent those things?

@@gamegang6275 u only need to worry about mold, yeast and what not if u use water in your solution (but if u do look up natural preservatives, i use germall plus). If ur body butter is completely oils then all u need is Vitamin E.

Just made this with my granddaughter. We double the batch so she could take some home. It turned out great so we are making one more batch. The fist batch we scented with Rose Oil. The second I’m doubling as well then dividing and doing half with lavender and the other half with the Panaway essential oil from Young Living that I use for pain in my legs. It can be my carrier oil and give me all the benefit of the moisturizers. Love it.

I would never use essential oils for a baby with eczema. Unlike what she said in the video, essential oils are not calming for the skin, essential oils of any kind can be highly allergenic. Ask any dermatologist, they are the most common cause of new allergies. No dyes, inks, perfumes or such.

Vitamin E is a thick and viscous oil that is super easy to mix into lotions, liquid oils, and even bath bombs for its skin-loving properties. It is a wonderful anti-oxidant, but it isn’t considered a preservative because it has noantimicrobial properties to it. Many home crafters use it thinking it will preserve their products, but all it can do is extend the life of the oils in your product (similarly to ROE and GSE).

Just FYI... I make my own body butter ALWAYS. I do not let it get as firm as you do. I set it in the refrigerator JUST UNTIL it gets a nice ring around the outside and the inaide is cool, but not hard. I use my Kitchen Aide to whip it! It is the most velvety, fluffy butter ever! I put it in small Kerr jars and place all but one in the refrigerator. I keep one in my bathroom and I've never had a problem with it melting, even with hot showering. Just be sure to NEVER get water in it. When my jar is empty, I take out another one from the fridge.

Thank you for such a great tutorial. I did try a couple of these, using other recipes I found online. I didn't whip it for as long as you did; none of the instructions said to do so. As soon as I saw the first signs of it being creamy, I stored it into containers. I live in Germany. All of my body butters have solidified. I feel really sad for having wasted my ingredients. I did also use some beeswax, perhaps that or the lack of whipping could be the cause. Would this happen to the body butter you made? or would it always remain in a whipped, airy state?
