Why don´t you show the complete machine in one shot? 12:15 One thing is strange: The machine makes a braid at the bottom. After the film cut you can see a twisted cord being wound up. No braid!

Because this machine does not have any tension system. It is some very low quality braiding. You can buy a real braiding machine in China for 300 usd which is 100 times more complex mechanics. This is worth nothing in my opinion.

@@danielcrall9507 Like most of his machines, it demonstrates the principle without necessarily being useful at all. I agree a real maypole-style braider is not expensive in Asia and can do real work. Or for serious production, a Wardwell style.

I would have asked the same question. It would be interresting to see what realy comes out. I expect a fairly loose braid. This could have been optimized with some tensioned rope feeder.

Great Build! Some tolerance issues, but I feel with CNC Cut Aluminium for the non 3D Printed Parts, as well as low friction plastic for the contact points and you have yourself a very capable machine. Do you have a program that measures the length produced etc? Also how does spool changing work? Is this scalable to larger designs or more threads? Also can wire be used? All in all great work.

5:39 There's a lot going on in this schematic but I don't understand the purpose of most of this. You're using A4988 motor drivers (presumably for the nema 17 steppers) but also include two L293D's for DC Motors, from what's shown here it looks like only some of the circuit is actually used (the stuff for the stepper motors), had you not used stepper motors in the first place you probably wouldn't have needed any micro-controller circuitry.

Nice build but I don't like a flat drill in a drilled hole. It will catch and ruin the drill, I'd has ruined one. Drill with the flat drill to the desired depth, thereafter drill through with the jobber drill. The jobber drill will center in the centerhole the flat drill made. You had an hole in the aluminium rod prior to start drilling. Not unexpected, it had a little runout. When you drill anew, the runout will persist. If you plane the hole away completely, ( and use a center drill first ) you avoid the runout.

Very cool design but why use an Arduino and steppers? Couldn't you just have easily used 2 brushless DC motors and maybe some felt pads to tension the string? Also you have a 3d printer so would it not have been easier to make the aligning top plate from plastic instead of wood? I see you may have had some very slight under extrusion and maybe small tolerance issues on your 3d printer so I can see how that could be an issue but I would assume it's more precise than a jigsaw and a piece of paper.

Since I know nothing about electrical engineering, I can still use this design but just use a crank to move the first gear! As long as I don’t have to braid the string with my hands 😅

Why not 3D print everything? There's a LOT of unnecessary things in there. You can get a couple stepper motor driver / oscillators for next to nothing unless you just wanted to layout a board and go through all that.

Such a strange mix of 3D printed parts, wooden parts, and machined metal parts. I don't think the machine works very well, there's no tension on the cords and it's not shown working all in one, uncropped shot. Finally, as other's have pointed out the final product seems to be twisted and not braided.

Exactly what i was saying regarsing tension. I know a lot about braiding machines and i did not watch even the final rope part. Now when i look at it its really a twisted 3 strand rope and not a braided rope. This video is made just for having profit from the viewers.. Clearly. This is not a working product.
