I playwd with electronics a bit when i was a kid, and now my children are old enough to start. Ive been thinking forabout little kits like this to build together... Anxieuouly awaiting version 2

It's not out of the question for a DIY kit to come out of this one day :)

why not add some screws beside the chip and then screw on a heatsink? or maybe you can make it so that the chip controls the output voltage using a mosfet, which should also be able to solve the problem

Hmm. I should look into your second suggestion. I remember seeing transistors used with chips like 7805 or 317 to increase their current output.

Disappointed. Why go through all the trouble, and it still requires a barrel jack. Make it use usb C PD atleast 😉

I am considering that too for v2.0, in combination with a chip to negotiate voltages. Funny enough, digikey just posted a video about that!

@@LeftyMaker yeah, I just saw that vid. Comet electronics has a 100W adjustable PD trigger . Works like a charm

you have a lot of space for a 2mm chip... it's nonsense! you can use bigger voltage regulator! tiny chips are for tiny projects and... tiny currents 😊

The reference design by TI was much larger in area. I guess I trusted the 1A rating in the datasheet too much.
