I've watched all your brine shrimp videos as was wondering what your best advice for starting one is. I have some that I have to use for a biology lab, but I don't want to just let them die. My plan is to go to the pet store, get some of their saltwater, some live and powdered algae, a saltwater plant, and aquarium sand. I'm also debating getting a few small snails to keep the jar clean, but I'm not sure about that. Also, since I want it to be a self-sustaining ecosystem and I don't have an aerator/bubbler, will the live saltwater plants be sufficient for providing oxygen? If not, what would you suggest? Thanks so much!

the setup you said should do the trick :) for brine shrimp the only real issue is low oxygen and high water temp but that's easily remedied. good luck

@@udaydas6291 i dont change the water bc i did the Walstad method. but since you most likely won't use that, its best to siphon like 20% of the water with a sponge every week or 2.

Build these things in stages, you cant just fling everything together and hope for the best. Next time start with mainly focusing on the flora, plants algae diatoms . then wait for a balance to occur. once your environment is stable you less likely to have issues incorporating life. The water will not be so clear that it acts like a magnifying glass either.

What type of water is advised? I know the Sea Monkey kits advise distilled but envelope 1 will add minerals? I want to make my own water amd have reef salt, should I use distilled water or bottles water to have some minerals? Thanks!
@bubblerings

As Sea Monkeys tend to be brine shrimp, Distilled or Reverse Osmosis water... or decent tap water, if you use it for your tanks already... should work. (Fairy shrimp are pretty finicky about water not having chemicals.) Brine shrimp tend to be quite tolerant of most tap water mixed with your reef salt. -and a de-chlorinator recommended for marine tank water.

That's usually done with the brackish Hawaiian Shrimp... often called Volcano Shrimp. They have a very low metabolism and food requirement, so can do with algae from a little daylight.

I would need to know more to try and help. What kind of saltwater are you using and how many eggs are you using? It could be water quality, overpopulation, food, etc. I've read yeast can also be used for food if they aren't eating.

On many of the videos for growing and raising brine shrimp, they feed Spirulina... use Marine Salt. -Hatch very few eggs, if not feeding to fish. (watch brine shrimp vids)

@bubblerings

@@kayliestevens5438 you should use real Marine Salt for one thing... Like Instant Ocean. And, you need to pre- grow some algae in the sea water... or they starve. If not in an ecosystem eco-sphere... there are many videos on growing brine shrimp to adults. Can feed more than just yeast... like spirulina powder... Can add a little fish food... or tiny shrimp food pellets, as they usually contain some algae as well. -If you don't care about their health, just the hatching, people use Aquarium salt or rock salt. Beware of sea salt from the grocery store, in case any chemicals are added... to keep it from sticking together. Prevents clumping, etc.. Bad for shrimp.

Pet shoops or Ebay... eggs on ebay. They hatch in 24 hours or less, generally. A gram of eggs is like 200 Thousand baby shrimp that hatch. so, for a jar, like this you may need only a male and female shrimp. Have fun...
