In this episode we kick off the Shop Made Machine Vise Build by making our own casting patterns to get them poured out of Cast Iron. This is the first video in a multi-part series and I hope you'll watch along as I make a vise without a vise in the grander scheme to make my own Aloris-ish quick change tool post.
This is an overview of how the project started, how I built a cnc router to make the patterns out of MDF slices, learnt to use Fusion CAM and all about the making and finishing of patterns ready to be cast.
The patterns are successfully completed and off at the foundry, so while we wait for them to be poured I though we could take a look back at the process that took me more than half a year.
My hope is that by sharing this, others can learn from my mistakes, be inspired to try things they thought were impossible for them and to ultimately learn the skills to make all the exciting things that make the world tick
