I'm never going to be able to go out for Indian food again without thinking about this instructional. Lol. Thanks!

Do you have to lay the straight edge all the way across?

The more area you can cover the better. It makes for a more accurate check.

When a head is warped, it is like a banana, that means the cam bore also warped? If u shave off the gasket side surface to make it flat, the cam bore still not straight, am I right? U do not want a cam bending and rotating. Too much resistance and it will weaken the camshaft. The only way is to use heat to straighten the whole head and that is expensive process, am I right? With that being said, to what extent we can resurface (skim) the head without a concern of cam bore not straight? 0.002"?? To what extent we should not even bother fixing? over 0.008? (...for a 4 cylinder head.)

No, I don’t believe that’s correct. Just because the head warps doesn’t mean the cam will warp. The cams are steel, the heads are aluminum. I don’t know the maximum allowed shave of a cylinder head, although there are published numbers and a lot of heads have indicators on the head that will disappear if they’re shaved too far.

Cam bore, not camshaft

My apologies. I read your comment late last night. I’d think it would depend on how bad the head warped. I’ve never had any issues with cam bind on a warped head, but that definitely doesn’t mean it’s not possible. On this B18B1 head, the max allowable milling of a head is around 0.040”, as best I remember.

Only problem being a Good straight edge Costs as much if not more than having a machine shop resurface the head.

Well I just got mine for like 30$ off Amazon. The resurface at the shop will be 200$+ each

I am not a mechanic but I do know how to dismantle it. I do NOT know how to check if a head is wrapped. So I appreciate this gentleman for posting an essential video.

@@RichLifeStories agreed! I can get the head off but I wanted to check to see if its warped BEFORE I send it off to the shop. Idk if the car just blew the gasket or if the head is REAL bad...
