DIY PETE theres more to the industry than the glass fibres my good man. It's the mix design, how it's mixed together (high shear mixer), how it's sprayed (takes years of practice to master popping near perfect slabs), the right way to wet polish, and the high tech sealers we use. In other words theres a method to everything and a reason why we do everything. For example with the mix, everything is done to the gram and is in there for a reason. It will open your mind to some unreal projects my friend. If you want to speak more about it, I can add you on Facebook and message you?

Love this project. I am looking to find the downloadable plans but don't see the link on your site. Where can I download these plans and for the kitchen island? In your opinion, using the same philosophy and basic execution, could the concrete overlay work if I was looking to replace my laminate kitchen countertops and concerned about the weight of full concrete tops?
@DIYPETE
6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Cory! For normal countertops, I'd recommend beefing up the cabinet tops if you don't think they are strong enough. I did the overlay because I really wanted the kitchen island waterfall look and needed to reduce the weight. I think you could do the overlay over the laminate, but that solid tops would be the best option. I'll be doing solid countertops for the rest of my kitchen ( and beefing up the cabinets a bit )

Awesome! How long between each coat of overlay? There were 3 right? Then the protective seal, also 3? 6days? Or less, please say less but only if it's true!?!
@DIYPETE
6 жыл бұрын
Hi! The concrete process took me about three days. I started on a wednesday afternoon - I taped the seams and added the pink bonding agent. It dries super quick. I put on the scratch coat, and let it dry overnight. I then sanded the next day, and then did all the layers of grey concrete. They dry pretty quick as well. I let the last coat dry, and then did the sealer, which also dries fast. The concrete portion can easily be done in under 6 days as it is an overlay material that doesn't take long to dry. Cheers!

Hi there! I would be a bit worried in case the grout joints ever cracked, as it could cause issues with the overlay.

Great idea, I might give this a go when I renovate my kitchen only thing I'd do different is run a small round over bit 1/2" along the edges and a bigger one 1 1/2" for the actual waterfall edges

I'd agree, that is a great idea to get those edges more rounded. Looking forward to hearing how it goes!

I have an old corner entertainment center I built long ago, kinda bulky, but have been pondering what to do with it. I just might do something like this.

You certainly could. I am applying it to a floating entertainment center and it's looking pretty cool.

What sucks is I have 2 layers of plexiglass - the top layer being tiles. I was hoping for multi-color tiles, like a checkerboard, but ended up just white. And it shows all the dirt. Pondering whether to go over it with concrete, or try to revive it. Either way, the sides need some major work. Especially the speakers. The foam from the old speakers has crumbled, and I need a more modern cover (and speakers in the boxes). I literally built the thing back in high school.
