In woodworking, a dowel is almost always a necessary element. In my case, I like to use it as an element of a wood joint and sometimes as a part of the build itself as in a bench dog. Having the proper dowel at hand can be a problem. But if you can make it yourself, then the woodworking project becomes easier and a lot more fun. I have been making dowels for my own use for a while but I have never made one bigger than half inch diameter. I needed some 3/4" dowel for making bench dogs. I didn't want to go out and buy it. So I decided to make the jig for it. This time, I didn't have a big enough step drill to do the tapered funnel hole so I had to improvise. This is how I did it.
